At almost every opportunity, Mike Brey talks fondly of his old friend Skip Prosser, the former Wake Forest coach who died of a heart attack before last season. He'll recall their trip overseas, how Prosser's team of soldiers beat his in the finals of the army tournament they coached in or how the two would often share phone calls as each struggled through a difficult 2005-06 season.
Brey is often considered one of the best men in college basketball -- much like Prosser. So it's fitting, in many regards, that Brey was named the first winner of the Skip Prosser Man of the Year award.
"He was the type of man you wanted your son to play for," Brey said in a release from Notre Dame. "He embodied everything that is good about college basketball."
Same thing could likely be said for Brey, who started out as one of 10 finalists for the award.

It is agreat selection . Coach Brey is a teacher, a coach, a counselor. He is a credit to Notre Dame and a very good basketball coach.
