If you thought Charlie Weis was going to make a decision on who his quarterbacks would be going into the fall, think again.
Charlie has made his call. And it's no call at all.
In a prepared statement this afternoon from Notre Dame, Weis announced that Evan Sharpley, Demetrius Jones and Jimmy Clausen would all compete for "playing time." If this sounds familiar, it should; this was essentially Weis' position after the Blue-Gold game.
In other words: Nothing's changed. The position is still very much up in the air.
Needless to say, it's going to be a VERY interesting run-up to the season.
In other news:
* Freshman cornerback Gary Gray, one of three early enrollees, had shoulder surgery after exams, a curious development given he cracked his right forearm to end his spring practice early. Weis said Wednesday this would likely mean he'll miss the upcoming season depending on recovery time.
* Notre Dame will use Big East officiating crews this year instead of crews from the Big Ten.
* Training camp will be held on Notre Dame's regular practice fields instead of the fields by the bookstore.
* The team grade-point average for the spring semester was 3.04, the fourth straight semester it's been above 3.0.
