You really can have too much of a good thing and they're about to prove that in Kalamazoo, Mich. They've been coloring the ice for years at Wings Stadium -- green on St. Patrick's Day, pink on Valentine's Day -- and now they're going, um, gold.
OK, I know this makes me a grinch since this is raising money for a great charity -- click here to read about it -- but I'm not lovin' it, pardon the pun. When it was just green ice, it was really cool. I thought pink ice, with hearts for faceoff markers, was was taking away from the uniqueness.
Now, this is going overboard. There are other ways to raise money and still get the McDonald's sponsorship. But, it'll be fun to see them skating on yellow ice. Hopefully, they know not to eat it.
By the way, the Wings signed goalie Jason Tapp.
- Interesting story out of the Flint Journal: The Generals are bringing in a hypnotherapist to work with the team. OK, I've heard worse ideas, but it's interesting that they let this go public before they signed most of their team. I wonder if it would give some players, those a little less, oh, adventuresome, pause.

Thats awesome, I loved hating Jason Tapp.

OK, there's a comment there just waiting to be made, but I'll refrain...not really about the Generals, more about the author of that article and the hypnotherapist...but I'll refrain...LOL!!

Mrs. Mightbite here ...
To the Generals ...
Look deep into my eyes.
You're getting very sleepy.
You're asleep.
Now at the snap of my fingers you'll wake up and
realize you don't have a chance at the cup.

Jason Tapp...great signing. I love hating on that guy. He fights, he is a jerk, he takes cheapshots, it will be fun cheering when one of our big-guys bowls him over. Plus he is slot like swiss cheese, he has lots of holes.
Posted by: Hit Somebody!!! | July 30, 2008 at 05:07 PM
Thanks, Justin, for what is sure to be the first of many "yellow ice" jokes. But the real question is how to top this. I'm thinking a nice plaid. Or maybe "rainbow ice night". ;)
And wow, that article from Flint is hilarious. That would make for some really fun taunts during their games here. I wonder if Savage will be crowing about what a brilliant move this is?

Riter signed with the Basingstoke Bison. He will be missed...

Dang you GM!!!

Plaid ice, Wendy? That gives me a migraine just thinking about it! :)
About the Tapp signing, someone on another board was joking that since the signing was being announced at McDonalds it meant that the K-Wings were signing Grimace. I don't think they were too far off! LOL Anyways, I don't mind seeing Tapp back in this league, it was always fun trying to predict when he'd snap and do something stupid!

Funny note...the Bison are the same team that Boucher played for
Posted by: Brandon | July 30, 2008 at 07:44 PM
Maybe Bucher called them up and said, "Man do I have a goalie for you!"
Posted by: Hoss | July 30, 2008 at 10:04 PM
I know that this will start an argument....but Reiter wants to be the man. He doesn't want to play 2nd fiddle to anyone. He wants to be KSP. That is why he didn't come to us 2 years ago. Then he comes to us, and has to share the net with Boucher. You can't blame Kevin for wanting to play all the time, but lots of us saw this coming even though it was printed that he and Boucher were supposedly best buddies.
Posted by: Hit Somebody!!! | July 30, 2008 at 10:05 PM
Hit, I agree with you, and you can't blame the guy. At the minor league level, to be a goalie takes that kind of mentality. A 2 goalie system is tough to pull off, expecially in the playoffs. We saw that first hand this year. Personally, I feel there needs to be a difinitive back up that knows his role on the team.

"I'm not loving it" Cohn
That one made me queazy. No Tapp jokes in there?? He gets announced at a Mickey D's and we get no "heavy" jokes??? Come on Cohn!!!!
How bout, every time he gets a goal scored on him, he's forced to eat a Big Mac.....he'd have a 7.65 GAA.
Posted by: Junior | July 30, 2008 at 11:31 PM
I saw that Tapp was traded to Odessa of the CHL. I guess he didn't want to live in the middle of nowhere West Texas.
Posted by: Shawn | July 30, 2008 at 11:58 PM
That bites as far as Reiter goes.
Posted by: Karla Stranger | July 31, 2008 at 12:16 AM
anyword on Morency? i heard he got invited to the Bridgeport camp but thats it. anything anyone else has heard?
good to see tapper back. there will be some good goalie fights. Sterling and Tapp should be a good series. I give it a month in the season.
sucks Reiter left, maybe we can bring in a young skilled tough goalie.
Posted by: lovelost | July 31, 2008 at 12:53 AM
Good point lovelost...with both Sterling and Tapp on the ice we're bound to see a goalie scrap this season. Who knows...maybe even Boucher will get in on the action with either one of those two guys. Sterling wanted to go with Boucher in Game 5, but I think Boucher knew that there was WAY too much riding on the line and that it would have been foolish to waste his time fighting with Sterling. Though..if Boucher did end up fighting Sterling in that game and got injured or tossed, we at least had a stud 'back-up' in Reiter. Sucks to see him go, yet I"m not surprised. Good luck to him.

Well, no Peerani arena trips for the Conman this year. I was looking forward to it but with that hip doc roaming the halls up there I'm freaked out! Lol. Not really, but I was put under by one of those dudes. Let me tell ya, if that would have been recorded I hear it would have been a you tube hit for days. Anyway, Reiter gone does not bother me. You know these guys, whether you agree or not, are very selfish. Its all about the themselves money. And that's fine its their lives. I also would leave if I was asked to be a backup to the starter that was the backup to the starter last season. Good luck Kev. And its great to have Bobby Bouche back. "I like Bert, and he likes me back":) movie quote. Actually outside of being a fellow fire fighter, I don't really care for his hockey game. But he is a hero off the ice when he is on the truck. Go Aquino!! I will be in Tampa in Feb. So I hope to see him there. I will have my K's sweater on.
Posted by: Conley | July 31, 2008 at 07:41 AM
I cannot see Boucher dropping with anyone. I thought he was going to with Margettie but he never did. Sterling and Tapper would lay Boucher out pretty quick, plus they got alot of size on him. But Boucher does have some anger so could see him going after someone but I don't think you will ever see him fight another goalie inless he is his size.
Posted by: lovelost | July 31, 2008 at 10:52 AM
Lovelost, Tapp is smaller than Boucher. Not that it matters, but he dosnt have size on Boucher
Posted by: brando | July 31, 2008 at 11:16 AM
CONLEY...What's up with the go Aquino? I haven't heard anything on him, what's the scoop? And if anyone has any info on Morency, I know he wants to come back to FW but I coubt he'd drop down a league with his skill. And as far as Henley..I'm taking an early guess that he's shopping around and assuming he doesn't get any bites will come back or play in Canada. Anyone know anything?
Posted by: Carrie Jeanne | July 31, 2008 at 12:15 PM
brando, whats Boucher? hes under 6 foot right? From what I remember Tapper was pretty decent size.
Posted by: lovelost | July 31, 2008 at 12:35 PM
Carrie Jeanne, i think Morency will end u here is he can't make it in Bridgeport. I think his chances are less then last year though. He only played 23 games and had a few injuries. He was a fan favorite but can't see him returning thier. If not he should return here because I cannot see him going to the ECHL or CHL but I could be wrong.
Henley, in the other hand will end up playing in the ECHL and maybe the AHL. If the ECHL will let him play, haha. But he can get signed easily for his size he just needs to toughen up some and heal that knee. If his injury gets worse, he should return.

after reading this, I say Mornecy is a no.

Carrie. I had some premature excitement with Karla's post, but it looks like that was for 2007-2008 I think. I have no idea how you all find this info on any previous player. I would like to worry about all that have been here in the past, but I am a present and future person. Hope we have a good team this year. If not, the beer will be cold....

Sorry all. I am getting tired of the double posts also.

I've never seen Boucher drop the gloves, but I've seen Sterling do that, and he's nothing to look at out there...saw the goalie fight with Reichmuth on YouTube, and he sure didn't win that one...Laaa-rrry must be a lover, not a fighter...he sure wanted to fight someone, anyone in a few games during the playoffs last season...I think he has "goon envy". :)

dang he is small. I just always thought he was bigger. haha. my bad. I still can't see Boucher fighting him though.
thanks shutterbug, Boucher didn't fight very well and didn't even drop his glove and blocker. thats kind of sad really.
Posted by: lovelost | July 31, 2008 at 03:11 PM
I'm glad Boucher don't fight much.
Posted by: mightbite | July 31, 2008 at 03:34 PM
Hmm....I seem to recall seeing this Boucher fight now that I re-watch it...thanks, shutterbug. Yeah, not the best fight, but Hay was no prizefighter, either there. Oh well, let's keep Boucher in the net where he belongs and let someone else do the fighting for us!! LOL!! Goalies don't normally see a whole lot of fight action, so I guess maybe that's their excuse? That's my story and I'm stickin' to it! I've seen Nick throw a few good shoves and jabs at people who get a little too close for his comfort, so I still like his toughness.

mightbite favorite goalie=Ray Emery.
Posted by: mightbite | July 31, 2008 at 05:34 PM
with you on tat one mightbite.
Posted by: lovelost | August 01, 2008 at 03:05 AM
lovelost...just because Boucher didn't have his gloves off doesn't mean anything. If you've ever played goal or put one of those on you would know that they are strapped on pretty tight sometimes. He may not have had a chance to even drop them because of that. On a side note, if I'm not mistaken, I think that was Boucher's first game with Muskegon...welcome to the team! And in my opinion, Ray Emery is a loser...I'm glad he's out of the NHL.
Posted by: Harbz | August 01, 2008 at 07:13 AM
you can ejected from a game if you don't take the blocker off. It looks like he had some time to take it off. the other guy did.
Posted by: lovelost | August 01, 2008 at 10:56 AM
Emery.....sucks
Posted by: Karla Stranger | August 01, 2008 at 01:46 PM
Ray Emery can fight=held his own with Jeff Peters of Buffalo.
Posted by: mightbite | August 01, 2008 at 04:18 PM
Emery is a whiney a$$ed baby.
Posted by: Karla Stranger | August 01, 2008 at 04:56 PM
Ray Emery would look good in a Komets jersey=not good looking=had to get that in there.
Posted by: mightbite | August 02, 2008 at 05:54 AM
Thank God that Emery is playing over seas. He can stay there. BTW......HES UGLY!
Posted by: Karla Stranger | August 02, 2008 at 11:38 AM
I had to look up his picture. I guess Karla was joking. He certainly isn't the snaggly-toothed, pimple-faced player she was yearning for a few weeks ago. But it is nice to see an African-American -- or is that African-Canadian in this case? -- playing the game at that level. Good luck to him overseas.
Posted by: Wendy | August 03, 2008 at 01:18 AM
Does that end the Ray Emerey story?-ha-ha.
