The Komets' practice this morning involved a lot of work on plays and technical skills. The players seemed focused but loose.
I was able to catch coach Al Sims' post-practice speech. He basically thanked the players for a good hard week of work and told them to enjoy being in the Turner Cup Finals.
He relayed some stories from early in his career with the Boston Bruins, about being in the Stanley Cup Finals as a rookie and thinking, after they lost, he'd having plenty of other chances to hoist it. He only got one but never won it.
So, the message was to relish the experience, whether the players were young or old, because chances like this don't come around often. Sims also told them not to take Port Huron lightly and that the first-round victory over Muskegon should have shown the Komets that they have to be at their best to win.
He also said if they win the Turner Cup, he's sure the championship rings would be something they'd cherish.
Kevin Hansen, who was struck in the head with a puck Wednesday, wasn't on the ice but was there. I'm not sure whether he'll play Friday.

I want to go on a bus for Wednesday's game. Is there any word about one for game 4?

Uberblogger!!!
Posted by: Justin Cohn | May 01, 2008 at 05:30 PM
kind of boring on here tonight
Posted by: Homco | May 01, 2008 at 05:43 PM
Nice article, wonder if anyone there actually reads this guy's articles. Looks like no comments to the blog. We probably just gave that blog the biggest hit of the year by Justin posting that link. Funny.
I will go out on a limb here...Komets in 4.
If that happens, I hope that someone gets ahold of Mar-cutie and beats the living crap out of him sometime during the series (multiple times if possible). He is a jerk. Wonder what color hair he will be displaying this time around? He is such a girl. I know that putting Mar-cutie with you gals is an insult, but he is much to cute and prissy to be a man.
Go Komets...make this thing physical, beat them on the board, and beat them physically too. I want to see some battles this round. It is the finals!!!
Hit Somebody!!!
Posted by: Hit Somebody!!! | May 01, 2008 at 05:55 PM
I would be down for a bus on Wednesday as well Gnasher, but I don't think there are enough people going on Wednesday to support a bus.

Just so everyone knows, it's pronounced poured urine. My wife is from there and that's how everyone that lives there says it.
Posted by: Ryan | May 01, 2008 at 06:16 PM
How about the guy titling that blog, " Seriously, Just go!!" I'm sure he gave it the Paris Hilton Side tilt to. OH the joys of the internet!!
Posted by: Jerad Shaw. | May 01, 2008 at 07:05 PM
Uhhhhmmm, that's not the Icehawks official blog. That's just some guy that normally talks about rogue high school sports from schools 20 miles outside of Port Huron, so no one really reads it or posts on it. Furthermore, it's set up to receive comments on Google, which isn't the format that the Times Herald website is in. Also, the Times Herald just changed formats last week, so there aren't too many people on that yet either. However, the Icehawks do have a fan forum and it's got some pretty funny links to your supposed 'tough guy' beating up your goalie. So, now that we see how the Kermits react when they face a little adveristy, how do you think they're going to handle being beaten by a team that just CRUSHED the team that stopped your home winning streak? PH actually has a better record than Ft. Wayne over the last 20 games (including play-offs). Also, Your goalie being named 'best in the league' is a joke. Anyone NOT attached to the Klusters will tell you the best goalie in the league is Larry Sterling (who is now 11-1-3 in his last 14 games, BTW). I will admit Ft. Wayne defense is the best in the league. It should be a good series, if Fort Lame can handle the pressure, that is.
Posted by: TigerDan | May 01, 2008 at 07:52 PM
Nice points TigerDan, you can have faith that Post Hootie can hold their own with us but do you know that we just beat the team that finished in front of the team that beat Bloomington on Mar 29th while Bloomington beat the team that Pout Hairy knocked out on Jan 18th and they lost to us Dec 29th 9-1, so there-go we shall whoop Pup Hatter in 5 games!!!
Did anyone else follow that?

Why we don't even need Snowball:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZamED3p7kbE&feature=related
You'll kick your own a**
And should you get all riled up, Snowball's right there on the bench ready to beat down the Fart Pain clown patrol that you put on the ice.
Posted by: TigerDan | May 01, 2008 at 08:16 PM
I'm trying to figure out how Port Huron had a better record than the Komets over the last 20 games and the playoffs...I don't know call me stupid but I'll take 23-2-1 over the last 25 games...Oh I might add that many of those games didn't mean anything as the Komets clinched the Huber on March 15th....
Posted by: Mark | May 01, 2008 at 08:22 PM
Snowball is a joke, he would sure send a message when he gets sent out there to get his ass handed to him by King Kong.
Posted by: Andrew | May 01, 2008 at 08:26 PM
All we have to do is win a game and you'll start beating each other up. We'll just sit back and laugh. Will you fans start fighting each other too. That would be awesome. Thanks
Posted by: TigerDan | May 01, 2008 at 08:30 PM
UMMMMMMMMM, how is Snowball going to "beat down" anyone while he is on THE BENCH?????? I am pretty sure we don't need to worry about Snowball, not that we ever really did. The best thing about Snowball is the "Little Yellow Snowball" song Larry plays for him when he gets his face wiped all over the ice!
Posted by: Hoss | May 01, 2008 at 08:31 PM
Anyone know where I can find the Let's Go Komets song to download, or the Komets Goal horn? Needed for a party I'm having this Saturday Night up in Port Huron. All is invited!!!
Posted by: Jerad Shaw. | May 01, 2008 at 08:34 PM
Oh My Gosh! I just clicked on that link!!! Did anyone else see that video before? Did anyone know about that "fight" before today? I don't know how the guy even played together and moved on to play PH after that!!! I sure hope no one else knows about this fight. If it gets out, the team is done for!!!
Oh,wait ......................................................................................................................................................................................
That was long ago! The team put it in the past, just like the Fury and just like they are going to do to PH!!!
Go Komets!
Posted by: Hoss | May 01, 2008 at 08:35 PM
Uh, Snowball was suspended during the regular season because he left the penalty box to kick some more a$$. Don't think he won't leave the bench in his suit and tie and take care of some business. GO HAWKS!!
Posted by: SuperFly | May 01, 2008 at 08:38 PM
Rumor has it Hawthorne for game 1.
Posted by: Conley | May 01, 2008 at 08:39 PM
Tiger Dan and Super Fly, really, are you kidding me? You just jinxed your whole team, good thing you didn't put your real names down so you won't have to hide out after your last loss of the season.
Posted by: kyle hunt | May 01, 2008 at 08:44 PM
You believe in jinxes?? If so, there is a lot more karma working against you, what with all the Kornits fans thinking you're going to sweep.
GO HAWKS GO!!!
Posted by: TigerDan | May 01, 2008 at 08:52 PM
I was wondering if any Port People would get on here. About time. As far as IHL goes, Port Huron took the longest to get on this board and speak dumb things. Heck Flint folks started flaming 4 months ago! LOL
Congratulations on being last. Now sitback and enjoy your trip to second place.
Posted by: Homco | May 01, 2008 at 08:53 PM
Well I can tell you never played the game or you would believe more in jinxes, talking smack outside your circle gives the opposition motivation. Good Luck.
Posted by: kyle hunt | May 01, 2008 at 09:06 PM
Um, I've probably played at a higher level than anyone on your forum. I can't gaurantee it, but most likely I have. And, I'm a goalie -- we're supposed to be more superstitious than anyone, but that's a crock. The last time the Wings won the cup in
'02, I was all over the Avs boards and even the burgeoning 'Canes boards. If anything, this is a GOOD LUCK thing for the 'Hawks. So, yer done, buh-bye. Keep a chain on that dog Bertram, while your at it. Wouldn't want him attacking any of the fine folks in Fort Wayne when you lose.
Posted by: TigerDan | May 01, 2008 at 09:14 PM
Bertram is our tough guy? News to me.
Mitch Woods can handle anyone on Pot Headlams team. They have a real cute tough-guy who highlights his hair named Donna Marcutie. She is hot. After Mitch handles your team, who can stand up to Henley? Part Hound Dog sucks. Your goaltender is so tough....how about this little nugget since you want to show you-tube clips. Who are these guys from Phat Hairlip's team getting their arse's handed to them?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhZKX3XkxDQ&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPXX3tvz8Bk
Plump Helen, dream on...you have no chance. 2nd place ain't bad though. At least you beat the team that beat us in the last game of the year. They were the paper champs though. So now you are the paper champs and we are coming for Punk Hairballs title.
Get used to this Pink Hairbow...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6olvBrdYXvs&feature=related
Go Komets...beat the Border Cats, ummm, Flags,.....ummm....beat Pork Hambone.

Hey Tiger if in the end your wrong you think you can find your way back on this blog and admit it?
Posted by: kyle hunt | May 01, 2008 at 09:22 PM
and by the way...don't come on here and bring your weak act of:
"Um, I've probably played at a higher level than anyone on your forum. I can't gaurantee it, but most likely I have. And, I'm a goalie..."
No one gives a rats arse about how washed up you are with your so-called glory years of playing back-up goalie in 2 games in Junior Pee Wee hockey. Save us all the stories of how you know more than us because you played hockey. Big deal anyway, I shook hands with Olivier Legault at Applebees after he drained his lizard....bet no one on here ever did that. PussyKat!!! errrr....Tiger Dan. Yeeeerrrr Grrrrrrrreeeaaat!!!
Posted by: Hit Somebody!!! | May 01, 2008 at 09:27 PM
Tiger Boy is sounding like Roberta Guinn...
I've forgotten more about hockey than any of you on this forum, so don't question Peanut Hacker's chances of winning a game against the Komets....blah blah.
Posted by: Hit Somebody!!! | May 01, 2008 at 09:31 PM
If I'm wrong in the end, then you have a championship. Good for you. In the mean time, the trash talk is fun.
Seriously, that video of Komets teammates fighting is probably the funniest thing I've seen in a llloooooonnnggg time. It doesn't even get that bad in the beer leagues. I'm still cracking up about that. You might believe the team when they say that they're over it, but I'm not so sure. That is a sign of a REALLY fragile team. They might just crack under pressure - that was the only real pressure they've had all year. The Icehawks, meanwhile, have been in pressure packed situations all year long and have come out better by the game.
Posted by: TigerDan | May 01, 2008 at 09:34 PM
Potty Urine out of their element, no real value...Kitty fan sticking his chest out...worth even less. Hit calling his bluff...Priceless!
Posted by: kyle hunt | May 01, 2008 at 09:37 PM
Um, when did I bluff?? I'm just having fun wasting time on here and it seems I've hit a nerve with some of you.
Wow, I thought the team was fragile. One person coming on to your boards and getting you all worked up?? It sounds like the fans are more fragile than the team.
Posted by: TigerDan | May 01, 2008 at 09:41 PM
Good stuff Justin.
I've seen this before, unfortunately, when they have to come back and admit when they were wrong, they don't.
It's going to be a hard fought series! Good luck to both teams!
Posted by: Junior | May 01, 2008 at 09:41 PM
Guinn would have been wise to have not forgotten so much about hockey!
Posted by: kyle hunt | May 01, 2008 at 09:43 PM
Anything not real is a bluff and you would have to spend alot more time on this blog to truly se "worked up"
Posted by: kyle hunt | May 01, 2008 at 09:50 PM
now that they have made it to the finals all their fair weather fans are out yappin. so lets let them dream.
they will get a dose of 2 nasty goalies...shaf: will do a russian jig in zehrs face. port huron tough guys: see mitch woods.
snowball: has nothing to contribute to this series

Welcome to the Port Huron fans. And feel free to discuss. Just watch the language; my one demand.
Thank you, The Management.

The only Pregnant Housewife fan in that town comes on here and jacks his jaws about how great his Flags are and how he is superior to all of us because he played in the NHL in 1958, and he might be the only fan there with an internet connection by the way (dial-up, netzero) and this is his career highlight....was this really an NHL clip? Liar.

Hey, Someclown. Are you sure that isn't Bertram running over Bouchbag?? It looks eerily similar.
Posted by: TigerDan | May 01, 2008 at 10:23 PM
Costanzo is a good guy. He's also young. Cut him some slack, eh? Save the personal attacks for somebody who deserves them ... like me!
Posted by: Brendan Savage | May 01, 2008 at 10:30 PM
It looks like some of the Hawk fans can't take it when you have a little fun with them. I am sorry for making fun of their 750 loyal fans. Hey Shaw feel free to stop by and get my autograph Friday. I am famous now you know.
Posted by: Wingmnn | May 01, 2008 at 10:37 PM
You must have a man-crush on Bert? You are really stuck on that whole thing.
At least my crush is on a girl...Donna Marcutie....she is so cute!!!
How could you support a team that has that girl on it?
Posted by: Hit Somebody!!! | May 01, 2008 at 10:55 PM
Why is it that every time I go to Port Huron to see the Komets wipe the ice with the Boarder Cats/Flags/Beacons/Flags/Icehawks there are about 500 fans at the game? If memory serves me right there are more season ticket holders in Fort Wayne than McMorran Arena holds.
Just don't be too ashamed when the Komet fans are louder that the Icehawk fans on Saturday night.
Posted by: Shawn | May 01, 2008 at 11:04 PM
superfly..i just read that lil comment you made about snowball coming out of the penalty box to whip some more butt...funny to say i saw him still in the box reaching around trying to throw a punch at a flint player....what a tough guy!! haha...the only job snowball will have is picking up margettie's teeth off of the ice after mitch woods gets a hold of him...better yet henley!!
Posted by: kometfan | May 01, 2008 at 11:37 PM
Better yet...Jake Pence kicks Marcutie's arse...that would be classic. This is the same girl that picked a fight with Guy...I mean come on??? Guy fights what less than once a year on average. What a joke this blonde highlighted sissy boy is.

"The last time the Wings won the cup in 02, I was all over the Avs boards and even the burgeoning 'Canes boards."
T R O L L ! ! !
For such a bigtime goaltender that has played at such a high level...why are you trolling hockey blogs of other teams fans?
P A T H E T I C
L O S E R ! ! !
You must be friends with the Geico Caveman...Mike Dumbkiewicz??? He trolls minor league hockey blogs too, and he is a Super Star.
Posted by: Hit Somebody!!! | May 02, 2008 at 12:04 AM
Wow, if I were from Port Huron I would join the ROTC: The Run Over To Canada! At least they have a real team over in Sarnia that gets fans. The last time the K's played a championship game there they skated away with the cup. We ought to send Robbie Irons up there for game 4 so he can drink from the cup on the ice again. Margettie will end up a big crying pile on the ice again this weekend and he'll be done for the year. Bring back some Tim Horton's from Port Huron so we can all celebrate another Komets championship this week. See ya'll tonight!
Posted by: Kometswin | May 02, 2008 at 12:12 AM
poured urine fans need to wake up and attend their games. how nice it is for a community to have a minor league hockey team. too bad the people up there dont appreciate what they have. theyve never appreciated it. i remember 73 when we won the cup on their ice. there were more komets fans in the building than flags fans. it was almost like a komet home game. sounds like a repeat!
Posted by: chuckitt | May 02, 2008 at 12:41 AM
hey kittydan one of my kids had to point it out again 11+1+3 equals how much.count your big toe when your adding.did you play goal without a mask or something.what was sterlings record, how many shutouts, who brought there team to the top.thats what i thought.get a life superstar.
Posted by: puckit | May 02, 2008 at 01:22 AM
For their sake, TigerDan, I hope that Port Huron hasn't been lulled into some false sense of security because of the Bertram/Boucher incident. I did feel like there were some cracks there after the Komets lost on April 13. I just had an uneasy feeling about things, and the first few games of the playoffs confirmed that. But if my feelings were accurate then -- believe me -- they are accurate now. In their last two playoff games, the score was 8 goals to 1. The Komets are coming to play, and the Icehawks better bring their A-game if they want to keep up. Trust me.
