Tonight, the Fort Wayne Komets are taking on Flint for the first time since the Generals fired coach Kevin Kerr. Now, Flint is being coached by three people -- Peter South, Steve Pronger and Jason Muzzatti, with South being atop the hierarchy.
It brings back some memories of South coaching the Komets for a day. In 1999, the Komets' head coach, Dave Allison, couldn't make it to a game because of a family commitment. The assistant coach was Bruce Ramsay, who was still playing, so the Komets brought in South to serve as a pseudo head coach, and the Komets lost 4-3 in a shootout to Port Huron.
South remained with the Komets as a scout and assistant, though his stock plummeted because some of the guys he brought in, like Nolan Weir and Randy Hankinson, were failures.
In the offseason, after the Komets went with Greg Puhalski to replace Allison as coach, South got a job with Border City of the Central Hockey League. The Komets were incensed because South allegedly made exorbitant contract offers to some Komets players, including Keli Corpse, and the Komets felt he was being vindictive because he didn't get the Fort Wayne job.
South denied it, saying he just wanted to build the best team he could and appreciated all the Komets did for him and he went on to recommend David-Alexandre Beauregard to Fort Wayne. He ended up being a pretty great player for Fort Wayne.
I think any differences have since been resolved. A fun bit of history for you there.

When was the last home game that Hawthorn was the referee?

Well PC echo the same comments after the game that the K's right now are not playing well and finding ways to win. Flint is a depleated hockey club and the fact we tied them is really amazing. Well Finding ways to win and easily turn into finding ways to loose and right not it is a fine line for the K's. PC hs just been unbelieveable and should be MVP because without him right now the K's would not have a winning streak. Also, Woods never touched the ice tonight so either he is sick, broke a team rule, or Sims feels the same way that his play of late his not been the type of play he was giving earlier in the year. Justin any word on why he sit on the bench the entire night?

The second period was still very flat. I can't put a finger on it. I'm sure they are relived to have 20 but the next games are going to weigh on them also. I mean who in their right mind would not want to achieve such a milestone. We need to get back to hittin some more and really intimidating opposing clubs. Two games with no major penalties. Who would have thunk it?

Conley, you are such a Goon. Always wanting fighting. Can't you just love good Euro hockey like everyone else??? You are seeing AHL hockey at it's best!!! :) That was sarcasim!!!

Durdin's hit was pretty high and they guy went head first into the boards. Henly is a beast, I saw him walk through several guys, I love this team, they dominated the third period and came out with a win after going down 3-1, great job guys.

Woods had a knee issue; that's why he stayed on the bench.

MR. Shaw How can it be negative when the K's themselves feel the same way and Justin has even reference it in his article? I just don't think they have played all that well against teams right now who have a depleated roster. What happens when these teams start to get healthy right around play-off time. Let's enjoy the ride but let's not get to cocky because the 2nd season is around the corner and that is a totally different ball game....

It would be nice to see all 4 indiana teams in final 4, Butler will go farther than any.Can teams pick up other players from other leagues now or are the rosters frozen?
