KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Fort Wayne Komets played a scrappy game but came up just short, losing 5-4 to the Kalamazoo Wings in a shootout during the annual Green Ice Game in honor of St. Patrick's Day at Wings Stadium.
Why scrappy? They were without their top two centers, Colin Chaulk (flu) and Mathieu Curadeau (groin). The Wings got two goals when the puck deflected off Fort Wayne players in front, another when goalie Nick Boucher was screened by his own man and a fourth after defenseman Brent Henley tripped and coughed up the puck behind his net.
The Komets' bounces weren't nearly as lucky.
However, Fort Wayne scored twice late in the third period to force overtime -- that's three third-period comebacks in a row -- and those goals came from Luciano Aquino and Konstantin Shafranov. But the Komets couldn't get it done in the shootout this time. Ryan Markham had the only shootout goal, as Fort Wayne's winning streak was snapped at 10 games.
No big deal, really, considering the Komets had wrapped up the regular-season championship in their previous game. There was no letdown in their effort Monday, which was a good sign for their fans.
Here's a question: It's Game 7 of the Turner Cup Finals. Which Komets goaltender do you go with? I'm picking Nick Boucher instead of Kevin Reiter.
I'd like to thank those who got onto the chat session tonight. Too bad internet problems prevented me from being on it as much as I would have liked. On that note, though, I would like to thank the Wings Stadium staff that worked so hard to try and get it fixed. Hopefully next time I'm up here, we'll have high-speed again.

I'm trying. Went to the doctor and he said it is perfectly normal for a new blogger with a cell phone to have this problem. He gave me a script for bud light and told me to call in the morning. I think Fisher should donate to locks of love.

You're doing this on a cell phone? Are you using a stylus? If so, there's probably a setting in there that has you "double clicking" when you click on it. I think I had a treo that did that. I took penicillin.

So tonight we are without Henley, Curadue and durdin? I know why Mat is out but justin do you know what is up with the others?
Posted by: Andy | March 19, 2008 at 08:23 PM
Durdin hurt his neck when he crashed into boards at Kalamazoo. Henley is sick, possibly related to his diabetes.

whats up with these k wings fans they win one and they act like they dominated us and if im correct it was a shootout that they won over!!!
ok wings fans answer this if you were as good as the komets (which your not)...and you guys won the Huber trophy then would you call it a jock strap?...yeah i dont think so... i think im noticing a little jelousy in you guys.lol its really funny to see you guys down our komets and fans but you guys are the ones that are acting like a bunch of idiots showing up on a komets hockey blog for komet fans to talk about the game.
now im not saying that our fans dont do it but we dont get a bunch of people to get on your guys blog and talk smack to you guys about your team... and oh believe me we could but most komet fans would not go down to your level and be like that.
oh and about the clothes thing...
you deffinatally have no room to talk and if you look and your place you should know why im saying it and its a fact so get over it that we are 1st place and are already in the playoffs!!! plus your team always plays cheap and it gets you no where so if you didnt play like you did for practically the whole season maybe you guys wouldnt be trying your hardest to get a spot in the playoffs!!!
