The Flint Generals' slide in the standings -- they've lost six of their last seven games -- resulted in the firing of coach Kevin Kerr, according to The Flint Journal.
Kerr is a former Komets player.
The Generals will now be run by assistants Peter South, Steve Pronger and Jason Muzzatti. South is a former scout/assistant with the Komets.
In Fort Wayne news, center Mathieu Curadeau tweaked his groin over the weekend. He will probably be a game-time decision Friday, when the Komets play host to the Kalamazoo Wings.
I think Kerr got a raw deal- with all the injuries. I always liked him as a player- just to bad.

how about yankee stadium hosting a hockey game for its last sporting event...what a way to go out. BOOO the yankees
next have red wings/bhawks play at wrigley before they tear that junk down. maybe it will erase those mediocre years of "baseball"
Posted by: JW | March 10, 2008 at 05:26 PM
Never ever refer to Wrigley Field as junk. It is the greatest stadium in all of sports. It's much better then US Cell-out Field!!

win a title and get back at me in the next 100 years
Posted by: JW | March 10, 2008 at 05:49 PM
How stupid..Why would any team fire the head coach a month before playoffs? Not fair to the players, fans, or the community of Flint. Atleast wait it out and see what the next couple of months bring.
Hope Currdy is okay.
Posted by: Brando | March 10, 2008 at 06:11 PM
I was thinking the same thing; why now? Although currently 10 pts separate 2nd and 6th place.
I wish Curadeau, Komets' leading goal scorer with 30, a speedy recovery.

Kerr stunk.
In related news, Flint Generals captain Kris Mallette was arrested for theft today when he went to pick up his pay check.
Lazy players+Lackluster coaching= Unemployement.

Wow....
Kerr fired!
Wow.
That is very surprising. The timing is poor.
So much for Flint the Paper Champs, they will be lucky to make the playoffs now.

Posted by: Henley67250 | March 10, 2008 at 09:04 PM
im going to the green ice game
ive never been to one i bet its cool...
Posted by: morency fan | March 10, 2008 at 09:06 PM
I would like to go to it too...
Posted by: Henley67250 | March 10, 2008 at 09:08 PM
No brainer... Sit Curadeau and let him heal... 27 pt lead, no need to rush him back and risk further injury to the groin or a compensation type injury...
Always surprised that the Flint teams always played so "soft" under Kerr. That totally went against how he played...
Posted by: JR | March 10, 2008 at 09:08 PM
maybe savage should be named coach, he knows all.
Posted by: chuckitt | March 10, 2008 at 09:20 PM
I thought that was my title?
Posted by: scoops | March 10, 2008 at 09:55 PM
Flint is a disaster every year. Other than the first year the Komets were in the UHL where they were the champs, Flint manages to have some major problem during the year every year it seems.
Posted by: Bruiser | March 10, 2008 at 10:01 PM
The swagger and big kid on the block attitude has been on a decline since the quarter poll of the season. Be intersting if they get that back in time to han on to a playoff spot. They still have a talented lineup when they want to play and everyone is healthy.
Posted by: scoops | March 10, 2008 at 10:12 PM
You really want to sit Curadeau on the game that sets the home wins record, I would see if he feels up to it.
Posted by: Ryne Gurney | March 10, 2008 at 10:56 PM
What's more important??? The home win streak record or a healthy Curadeau going into the playoffs.... Lets look at the big picture...
Posted by: JR | March 11, 2008 at 06:30 AM
That's a fun question to debate. Without looking it up, and this is for the Komet fans that have started watching the Komets since 1970, did the 63-64 team with the cup? I know they had the winning streak, but I don't know if they won the cup. Every year there is one team that wins the cup, but not every team has a chance to break a IHL record. Would you rather see a the Komets win the cup or set the IHL record?
With that being said, I think they might do both...what do you think?
Posted by: Hoss | March 11, 2008 at 06:52 AM
I would a million times see them win the cup, and as of right now, who can stop them.
Posted by: Ryne Gurney | March 11, 2008 at 07:12 AM
and JR thats why I said to see how he's feeling, if this game didn't mean anything, i would sit him all the way. But this game is important to all those guys.
Posted by: Ryne Gurney | March 11, 2008 at 07:14 AM
The Toledo Blades defeated the Komets 4-2 to win the cup that year Hoss.
The team is probably not thinking about the playoffs so this game is the most important game of the season right now. Even though the K's went 0-2 without Curdy, I still believe we have enough to beat K-zoo on Friday. There has been a few days to rest since the injury and my gut feeling is he will play.
Posted by: scoops | March 11, 2008 at 08:56 AM
I wasn't a Komets fan until 1983 so I'm disqualified from this debate. Just when I thought things were good.... I get beat out by seniority.

Nice to see El Sid thinking about an old club. Once again Komets spelled with a "C", but what are you going to do. I hope this kid works out for the rest of the season, sounds like his head might not be fully comitted to the Komets which could be a problem, but if he still wants to play hockey this yearm then that's something. Does this kid count toward the Amature 2 they can sign?
Posted by: Greg | March 11, 2008 at 02:19 PM
Don't like his comment about the league either but he may need a couple of 'boards' to change his mind :)
Posted by: gman | March 11, 2008 at 02:34 PM
Nothing says the Komets have to keep him.
Posted by: Greg | March 11, 2008 at 02:48 PM
The road to get where you want to go professionally doesn't always have to be through the ECHL or AHL.
I don't put much into what he said. He's a 19yr old kid who probably has the same view of the IHL as others do who don't know much about it. He might look at it differently once he plays here and helps win a title. :)
Posted by: scoops | March 11, 2008 at 03:19 PM
Might be, but if he reads what some of the vets, especially some on the Komets, have to say....just saying.
Posted by: Greg | March 11, 2008 at 03:23 PM
Cohny are you still upset about the Clevland Browns sock comment? I've never seen CB's hockey socks before.
Posted by: St.Christopher | March 11, 2008 at 03:25 PM
You're right scoops,19 yr.old's are very impressional and will do anything to fit in with their peers.I see him having a change of heart once Sims enlightens him.
Posted by: St.Christopher | March 11, 2008 at 03:32 PM
Especially since Sims knows a couple of teenagers himself :)
Plus Shaf and the others can also help with his impression of the league.
Posted by: Shutterbug | March 11, 2008 at 03:49 PM
Sorry, meant impressionable.
Posted by: St.Christopher | March 11, 2008 at 04:14 PM
They're not Browns sock intentionally. But they are ugggly. Don't ask me where I got them. No, not upset, but I think I'm going to start calling that the antisocial hockey league.
Posted by: Justin Cohn | March 11, 2008 at 04:29 PM
the kid is being honest. of course, on here thats a bad thing
Posted by: JW | March 11, 2008 at 04:34 PM
We put the "fun" back in disfunctional. Yeah the socks are ugly but they're so coooool.
Posted by: St.Christopher | March 11, 2008 at 04:39 PM
Larry Schmidt tell me you aren't going to play that St. Patty's Day song after a goal on Saturday?
Posted by: Henley67250 | March 11, 2008 at 04:49 PM
Thanks for the tip, Junior, by the way. ... Ah, well, I soon will have a new jersey to put those socks to shame.
Posted by: Justin Cohn | March 11, 2008 at 04:54 PM
The kid may need Woods-Bertram-Legualt-HENLEY to knock him around a little to show him the IHL. Or Chaulk.
Posted by: mightbite | March 11, 2008 at 04:58 PM
Don't tell me they make a Clevland Browns hockey jersey. Once you get to know all the Tuesday and Friday regulars it won't seem so unsocial.
Posted by: St.Christopher | March 11, 2008 at 05:28 PM
Uh, I'm not a Browns fan. Go Lions. Fire Millen. Woo-hoo. ... Well, someday I'll crack the clique. Maybe.
Posted by: Justin Cohn | March 11, 2008 at 06:23 PM
Not as far as I know, but I do plan to have a green beer after the game.
