So many streaks. Who can keep track of them all?
The Komets' 3-2 victory over the Bloomington Prairie Thunder extended the Komets' winning streak on home ice to 14 games, four short of the franchise record. The Komets have scored a power-play goal in 13 straight games. P.C. Drouin has tallied a point in 11 straight games.
All totaled: The Komets are just plain good.
But Wednesday night, they had to work. They worked their fists, their defense, goaltending and even their breakaways. The Komets showed some grit late, after Don Parsons' goal gave Bloomington a 2-1 lead. Then Drouin's pass out of the right corner set up Terry Marchant for his second goal of the night.
In the shootout, unfamiliar territory for the Komets, their first three shooters were all a little too fancy. So, at the behest of David Hukalo, coach Al Sims sent out the least fancy player he has -- Guy Dupuis -- and he beat Loic Lacasse with a simple wrist shot that proved to be the game-winner.
As for defenseman Kevin Hansen, who was injured in the waning seconds of regulation, he has a neck injury and general manager David Franke characterized it as day-to-day. But Mitch Woods should be in the lineup Friday against Kalamazoo, after serving his one-game suspension for instigating a fight in the final five minutes of Sunday's 6-1 victory over Bloomington.
I promised a certain someone high up in the league that I'd take it easy on the referees for a while, so I don't have much to say about Kevin Graber. Except, how on earth did he dole out two game misconducts for third man in, when neither was joining another scrap? And that interference call on Brandon Warner in the third period should have been announced as two minutes for playing patty-cake. Other than that, Graber did a fine job.
Well, I'm told they're doing routine maintenance on the Coliseum internet in a few minutes, so I have to go. Be back tomorrow.

HAHA "Justin, please take it easy on our horrible refs. It's not nice, you even made Jim cry the last time he was in town. He tried to give you 4 minutes roughing the passer, we didn't know what to tell him."

wow..i just watched the video on wane.com of the highlights...for one.. i didn't see hanson check anyone instead i saw clarke i think it was crosscheck durdin frm behind into boucher..and then for durdin to get the third man in was dumb..all he did was pull miller off of hanson!!

I haven't seen the videos, but I would just like that Justin step away from the officiating. I would like you to report about hockey, and not speak on the hit or miss officiating in this league. We don't need a reasonible voice talking about what calls are made in this league. Please silence yourself! Thanks

That was another joke in case noone got my humor!!!

You promised a "certain someone high up in the leauge".... that doesn't sound like real journalism to me....
Posted by: Iceboi | February 14, 2008 at 02:34 AM
He didn't promise us anything. He told us of an inside source that had mentioned something to him. Me along with alot of other people would love to know names and what was said. Let's be honest, you would be hard pressed to find any media member in the world that members of a league would respect someone enough to speak with Cohn off the record. I think we are lucky to have Justin be able to bring us something like that and still not over step the bounds of trust!!! You won't see Cohn in Washington with McNamee and Clemens!!!!

Cohn, you crack me up.
Posted by: Anna | February 14, 2008 at 06:19 AM
Huummmm, why would the league care whether a writer complained about officiating or not, huummmm, a quandary indeed me thinks.

Decent game for a Wednesday night.
Officiating sucked.
Henley's defense wasn't great. His "fight" with Cornish was over quick. He popped Cornish once and Cornish grabbed on. I think Henley stunned him with it.
Boucher might have had his worst outing of the year. And still won.
Hansen and karma seem to duel at times, seems like for every beatdown he hands out he ends up injured.
Posted by: Jungle Monkey | February 14, 2008 at 08:32 AM
Hansen doesn't hand out that many beatdowns. He avoids more than he gets into.
Posted by: Bruiser | February 14, 2008 at 08:39 AM
Hansen only fights when he has a clear advantage.
Justin, that's GREAT that you were "asked" to take it easy on the Refs. That's border line ridiculous. You point out the obvious and the same stuff that the fans see, if anything, they should encourage more of it.
Posted by: Junior | February 14, 2008 at 08:55 AM
while the statement "Hansen only fights when he has a clear advantage" may be true, it is a bit unfair under current circumstances.. He did what he had to do at the time.. regardless of who he fought.
If he wouldn't have gone after him after shoving one of our players onto our goalie then this message sting would be up to 100 posts already.. with everyone complaining that we didn't stand up for Boucher.
Hansen did the right thing. way to go kevin. IMO this isn't the time to call him out for not fighting a more capable opponent.

komets123 I agree whole heartedly!!!! Way to go Kevin.

Well i might not have guessed the name right: H A W T H O R N E, but it sure was his style!
I don't mind them cycling new refs through but let me be the first to say N E X T!

I can't believe last nights game did not get out of hand totally because of that Boobs calls, I really don't understand why certain refs. feel that the game is about them. Lets see, referee thinking to himself, I have to make a couple calls here to teach these goons a lesson, that will teach them! Geez!
Posted by: kyle hunt | February 14, 2008 at 11:52 AM
That game looked like it was going to get out of control from the first face off.
What a crazy emotional rollercoaster night.
Who says midweek games are no good?
Anyone have any word on Hansen?
Posted by: Homco | February 14, 2008 at 01:18 PM
I didn't really see it so I can't really comment, but I can't believe he pulled out a hit from behind call at that point in the game. Also Ewasko got drilled which was good to see, Bert was hassling him in front of the net all night.

32 penalties is freaking crazy!
Let them play hockey.
No flow to the game last night, and no flow hurts the Komet's style. Refs like those we had last night...are they assigned to our games on purpose? Were they trying to end our streak of great play? Only Dickie Boy Brosal would do such a thing, right? Brad Jones? Would he do that too? UMMMMMM, yes!
The Komet's are running away with this league game by game. Hope they can stay interested and fresh the rest of the way and into the playoffs. Hate to waste this season because they got bored.

1 word to describe the KOmets:
WOW!
At the begining of the season Reiter was OK, but now he's on FIRE!!!! The Komets have been doing great this season hope they can keep it up for the playoffs!
Go Komets
