FLINT, Mich. -- Greetings from Perani Arena in Flint, where, as usual, it's a bit chilly. It makes me think of the hilarious looking upcoming Will Ferrell movie "Semi-Pro," a spoof on ABA basketball in which he plays for the Flint Tropics. I gotta say, it doesn't feel tropical tonight as I'm wearing my thermals. But hey, it is hockey.
Nick Boucher will be in net for the Komets tonight. So we won't be able to see if Kevin Reiter can redeem himself for the last trip up here, when he was pulled after allowing two goals on three shots. Komets coach Al Sims seems to be just rotating his goalies. Why not.
By the way, the Generals have signed Justin Depretis, who had 58 goals and 93 points in 29 games for the Indiana Ice Miners of the recently defunct Mid-Atlantic Hockey League. The Komets may be sorry they didn't give the kid a look, after he played for Fort Wayne native Brian Gratz. I guess we'll see.
As I mentioned, if you want, I'll keep tabs on the comments section tonight and answer any questions. Fire away, if you're home on a Saturday night.

Justin any word on the Brawl last night in Port Huron. Snowball was suspended 5 games but I do not think anyone from Flint got suspend or did they?
Posted by: David | February 16, 2008 at 07:07 PM
No suspensions that I've heard of. Flint's scratches are Jared Dumba, Mike Kinnie, Brett Westgarth and Chad Alban. ... I haven't heard on Mallette yet, but I think he's hurt.

3 hour drive to watch Hawthorn ref.........wish I would have known he was going to be here and I would have stayed home.
Posted by: topshelf | February 16, 2008 at 07:42 PM
Spezza in net. ... Of course, the real question is: WHere's Kory Kocur?
Posted by: Justin Cohn | February 16, 2008 at 07:43 PM
By the way, and bearing in mind that I've covered two Super Bowls and been to Stanley Cup Finals, etc.: That was easily the longest rendition of the national anthem I've ever heard. Good. But, whoa, it was long.
Posted by: Justin Cohn | February 16, 2008 at 07:44 PM
Hey topshelf, you on a Treo or what?
Posted by: Justin Cohn | February 16, 2008 at 07:45 PM
GOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL
Posted by: deuce | February 16, 2008 at 07:49 PM
I bit the bullet and let the girl take me to see P.S. I Love You about 3 weeks ago. Since then I had gotten to see the new Rambo and control the remote. It was awful while watching it, but has paid off. The Kimbo Tank fight is on Showtime. I would prefer the Pavlik vs. Mayweather fight!!!
Posted by: Jerad Shaw | February 16, 2008 at 07:50 PM
Kimo Slice. I'm surprised no one has tried to put him in skates yet. Alongside Brendan Tedstone.
Posted by: Justin Cohn | February 16, 2008 at 07:51 PM
HAHA.... Tedstone vs. Kimbo on skates. It wouldn't sell very well, but would be comic relief. I give the edge to Kimbo. :)

yes Justin.........section 5
Posted by: topshelf | February 16, 2008 at 07:54 PM
Noticed Flint signed that kid from Indiana, PA from the MAHL who was a scoring machine. Justin how does he look?
Posted by: New Komet Fan | February 16, 2008 at 07:55 PM
To be honest, he either hasn't been on the ice yet or I haven't noticed him yet.
Posted by: Justin Cohn | February 16, 2008 at 07:56 PM
is that you sitting next to Savage Justin? don't rub his back
Posted by: topshelf | February 16, 2008 at 07:56 PM
OK, now I see him. Doesn't look out of place; that's about all I can say about that shift. ... Warner left the ice hurt, after he got checked. Maybe just woozy; hard to tell.

Posted by: Justin Cohn | February 16, 2008 at 08:03 PM
that's what bozo said too on the b2
Posted by: deuce | February 16, 2008 at 08:06 PM
Well, on the plus side you won't have to worry about any bugs
Posted by: Brandon | February 16, 2008 at 08:06 PM
I'm sure if I look really hard, I can find some rodents. ... By the way, the state of this place is still a wreck. The parking lot was covered with snow and ice; nice to roll out the welcome mat for the fans. And, I guess because of a truck show or something, the buidling was covered in dust. That's a little more understandable. But the parking lot was a hazard. They do that at Wings Stadium now, too, lawsuits waiting to happen.

Atleast it's free to park in K-Zoo....I believe it's $4 in Flint
Posted by: Brandon | February 16, 2008 at 08:10 PM

In the Bloomington/Muskegon game, Old Man Parsons already has a natural hat trick and they had 2 fights in the 1st 1:07

Muskegon kind of stinks, eh?

End of 1!!!!
Justin, Do you realize you are missing out on the NBA All-Star Skills Competition and Slam Dunk Competition?
Posted by: Jerad Shaw | February 16, 2008 at 08:21 PM
from the score sheet it looks like musky is killing themselves
Posted by: deuce | February 16, 2008 at 08:22 PM
I did realize that. I heard Dwight Howard wanted to use a taller-than-usual basket? I'm assuming they didn't let them. ... My interest in the dunk contest kind of ended when Dominique left the building. Or Spud Webb. Whoa, did I ever love him.
