Defenseman Brent Henley, who suffered a knee injury Friday, will undergo an MRI this week, after which the Fort Wayne Komets will determine how much time he'll miss.
"They're checking for some possible cartilage damage or meniscus damage," general manager David Franke said. "They want to see what's going on and how bad it is."
Franke had no idea whether the injury would keep Henley out days or weeks.
Friday was Henley's first game of the season, after offseason knee surgery. His anterior cruciate ligament, which was repaired, was not re-injured this time.
Franke didn't expect to have results of the tests until this weekend.

1st time posting
I hope Henley's is not to serious I hope I get to see him play on Dec. 27. That will be my 1st komet game of the season since moving to MI in Sept. I am really happy to return to the jungle and see the komets once again in person.

I hate to say it, but I don't think Henley will play more than a dozen or so games and probably won't see the end of the season on skates. It's to bad, everyone was wanting a real tuff guy on the ice but I have my doubts if it's going to be Henley.
Posted by: Ron | December 18, 2007 at 09:37 PM
A "REAL" tough guy. You don't think we have "REAL" tough guys now?
Posted by: lovelost | December 18, 2007 at 10:13 PM
So much for it not being his knee and his knee being "solid" eh? Shocker.
Posted by: Brandon | December 18, 2007 at 11:10 PM
And no, i'm not hoping his knee is hurt badly or anything like that...sometimes you have to look at the entire picture and go with your gut and not just whats told
Posted by: Brandon | December 18, 2007 at 11:12 PM
Tough to say, they're looking at the knee; doesn't mean there's actually anything wrong. Necessarily.
Posted by: Justin Cohn | December 19, 2007 at 12:10 AM
From what i've heard about what happened, his reaction, and them calling for the PoHo team doctor...makes me really wonder about the stability of his knee.
Posted by: Brandon | December 19, 2007 at 01:30 AM
I get tired of all the spin that comes out of the Komets organization. I understand when its needed. But telling us its an "upper leg" injury only to find out it was his knee again is frustrating.
Hope Henley can make a speedy recovery.

That's hockey, my friend. ... And it's the NFL.
Posted by: Justin Cohn | December 19, 2007 at 11:08 AM
Welcome Adam!
I think the only thing we can blame on the Franke's is if it comes out that Henley was pressed into playing too soon. If he was cleared by the Dr. and he wanted to play, the only thing we can blame the injury on is BAD LUCK! Who cares if they say it's his leg or arm or head, let's get him better and get him back out there as soon as it's safe.

Justin, do you have an update on Saidachev?

Bring back Kulks!

Sessa was placed on waivers. This site won't let me post it, but go to the transaction page on the IHL website
Posted by: Junior | December 19, 2007 at 01:23 PM
That's the dumbest move they made. Sessa was a solid player. It'll come back to us-he'll get picked up and be a scorer for another team.
Posted by: LC | December 19, 2007 at 01:30 PM
Sessa was a solid player...in the preseason. He has no drive whatsoever, no heart. Good riddance
Posted by: Brandon | December 19, 2007 at 01:44 PM
Well, I'm surprised by this move, or at least until I get some sort of explanation other than a vet had to go.
Posted by: Greg | December 19, 2007 at 02:07 PM
2 goals 22 games into the season about says it all.
Posted by: chuckitt | December 19, 2007 at 02:37 PM
Well Henley must be ok otherwise it would be pretty stupid to get rid of a vet right now. Unless they have a backup for when/if Henley falls through.
I feel like we have waived alot of good players this year but i think this could deffintly come back and bite us.
Hope Legault can keep it clean and step it up a notch. That is if HE COULD ONLY GET SOME PLAYING TIME!!!

With Sessa gone, I was hoping to hear that Justin Depretis might be called upon. Too late..
The Indiana Ice Miners forward Justin Depretis was called up to the Central Hockey League's Wichita Thunder on Thursday. The twenty-five year old native of Pittsburgh, PA heads to Wichita after leading the Mid-Atlantic Hockey League in a number of categories. Depretis, 6'-3", 230lbs, leaves Indiana as the MAHL's leading scorer (37 pts), and first in goals (26), power play goals (7), game winning goals (4), and plus / minus (+21).
I believe that Sessa was a Vet. I thought that it was the Komets intention of keeping 8 Vets. Is it possible that they are making room for another Big D-man (Vet)?
Thanks for the Sessa update Junior. Good stuff! I did not know until I read your post. I did hear that there was nothing physically wrong with Sessa. Poor performance was the issue.
I do like the change made to our first line (Chaulk, Woods, and Aquino). Woods is taking a beatin in front but, He's taking it and making it work. GO Woods.
Now if Sims could only get some ice time for Legault. It would be nice to see him on a line with Curadeau. Park his big bod in front of the net. GO KOMETS!!
I did'nt think Pence played too bad at forward. Any thoughts?

Hey the Fan...
Indiana still has that other hot shot that has not been moved yet...
Posted by: Andrew | December 19, 2007 at 03:19 PM
I'd take preseason Sessa, regular season or when it counts, NO.
Good move by the K's IMO, the guy was non-existent on the ice.
Marchant has been playing harder of late, he knew he was walking the line and stepped it up.
Pence is getting better. He's speedy and plays his role.
Posted by: Junior | December 19, 2007 at 03:22 PM
Nice move - gettimg rid of sessa!
Posted by: mightbite | December 19, 2007 at 03:44 PM
How many goals does marchant have? i would have sent him packing.
Has anyone heard of any other teams wanting to get into the I next year? im kind of tired of seeing some of the teams already, i wonder how the players feel? ill bet that they are tired of seeing port huron already.PR

I am not upset over getting rid of Sessa. It was either him or Marchant and it seams like the Frankes have more faith in Marchant and Henley coming back. I do not have a problem with that.
I do think we still need some help on the D. (we could trade for Guinn!) But seriously Pence and Shirokov are not cutting it in my opinion when protecting the net. We need some young hot stuff rookie back there like we have up front (Aquino, Said, and Curd)

The Mahl is a joke. Have you seen the Goaile stats. Most of their gaa are over 5. You wonder why all those guys had high point totals.
Posted by: Charlie I | December 20, 2007 at 01:52 AM
Sessa was waived because he is pursuing a career in the NYPD. Just saw that on the JG website and thought I'd share. Can't wait until Friday! Let's rock the jungle!! GO KOMETS!!
