MUSKEGON, Mich. -- Greetings from Muskegon, Mich., from where I bring you disappointing news: I see no gargantuan 6-foot-7 defensemen. Sorry folks, it looks as if Brent Henley's return to the lineup will have to wait at least one more night.
Actually, from what I hear, about 14 more nights. What's the rush, I say. Let the knee heal.
Guy Dupuis is back, though, from his dislocated rib and Bobby Kukulka is warming up after sitting out with a shoulder contusion. Jason Sessa is out with a hand injury, coach Al Sims said, so the Komets don't have to rid themselves of a veteran just yet.
I will update you during the game, assuming this beam 6 inches above my head in the obstructed-view press box doesn't knock me unconscious.

Justin, Tom wanted me to invite you over to section 106 where he was joined with around 8 other Komets fans. He said if you want to swing by during some free time, they would enjoy your company. Just passin this message along. After his call I decided to give B2 another shot!!! GO KOMETS!!

I am pleased so far tonight. I had some problems the other night with a game from Cinncinatti, but so far so good. Well that is if you don't count the 3 penalties the K's have taken, expecially the one Rieter just toke for delay of game!!! Starting slow again!

Should have just had our 2nd, but a penalty call to Chaulk erases it off the board.

Justin, who was that behind the net that gave the puck away for the 2nd goal??? Feed isn't clear enough to pick numbers up down there.

I thought it was Shafranov, but I can't be for sure Jerad...

Curadeau, I believe.
Section 106? That looks so far away. Maybe I'll shoot down.

Another fine -2 night for Chaulk and Aquino. Feel free to put the blame on Pence though.

STATMAN... Chaulk had a good reason for the -2. =)

Oh but of course he did. It really matters not since +/- means nothing. Season +1 and -5 from the top two scorers tells us nothing about the backchecking abilities of those players.

Maybe having Henley back in the lineup will fix all of those problems since everyone seems to be waiting for his return. I know the big guy has a strong back but is it strong enough to carry the weight and expectations this city has placed on him? I certainly hope his teamates do not use him as a license to start taking cheap shots at opposing players because they have Henley around to defend them. This is going to be a very interesting next couple of weeks.

I have been reading the whole +/- discussions over the last couple days. I was on the fence. On the 2nd goal, there wasn't much anyone could do after the puck was coughed up behind the net. To me, I think +/- in most cases is just a useless stat used in the game. Obviously, in some circumstances, it is something to be looked at. I thought last night, Pence did his job. He got the puck out of the zone when needed. He isn't going to do things that show up on the stat sheet, but if he can do his job, he can still be valuable.

I don't think its backchecking abilities. I think the problem lies in backchecking motivation.
