The ECHL's Elmira Jackals were involved in a bus crash early Thursday, as they were returning to New York after a loss at Cincinnati the night before. Click here for coverage from The Elmira Star-Gazette. The Jackals were rivals of the Komets in the now-defunct United Hockey League last season. It sounds as if the players are OK but the bus driver is in rough shape.
In lighter news, make sure you check out The Journal Gazette tomorrow, when I'll have a feature on Evgeny Saidachev. Did you know he played in high school for Culver Military Academy in Indiana? And did you know Culver has produced seven NHL players, including Gary Suter?

Justin,
I was not aware of that Saidachev played for Culver Military. I knew that the school has a hockey program and it is an excellent school to earn a quality education.
I will look forward to Friday's article.

I did know that a couple of NHL players came out of Culver Milatary. John-Michael Liles is one of them. That is a great school, with a great hockey program.
I look forward to your article Justin.

I was in Cicny the past two days and almost went to that game, I couldn't find (no computer access) who they were playing. Sorry to hear about the accident.
I played a few games against Culver Teams. Always coached very well and always very tough to play against.

I thought maybe Ol' Chaz cross checked the bus from behind. =)
Good to see that all the players were okay.

Hope everyones ok.

Actually the players aren't all OK...
Dan LaCosta (goalie) sustained an ankle injury that will keep him out for over a month. He was supposed to get a call-up today also...that really sucks in his situation.
Dan Boeser (former Rockford player) and Jon Landry also suffered injuries that'll keep them sidelined for a few weeks.

BTW this was reported on an Elmira TV station. I was relayed the information through a message board.

And in the grand scheam of things, they are OK so all should be happy. Does it really matter if they don't play hockey for one month? I hope the driver is ok as well...

It does matter - these guys work their butts off to get called up. Although it is fortunate that nothing worse happened.

Question...Would it be a bad idea to take my pregnant wife to the K-wings game on Dec. 8th? I have never been there before so would it be safe to go???

K-Zoo is a very friendly building, as long as you are not mouthing off to them. Great barn to watch a game!

Very fun place to catch a game and only ever had any problems one time with one drunk guy...it happens. Plus...there are normally several hundred to even sometimes about half the arena full of FW fans....I call it Mini Memorial because it is like a Komets home game a lot of time. If you listen to games on the radio on there you can always hear the FW faithful which is awesome. You can also here their PA guy trying to play music to quiet the FW people down often.
