Fort Wayne's Evgeny Saidachev was selected as International Hockey League Rookie of the Week, after he tallied one goal, three points and plus-3 rating in two games. Click here to see the press release and the other award winners this week.
Brendan Savage of The Flint Journal completed his quest for the top three players in United Hockey League history and came up with Kevin Kerr, Jason Firth and Paul Polillo. He covered the league longer than I did, so I will defer to him but, just for arguments sake, don't the latter two seem a little one-dimensional? Personally, I would have put Sylvain Daigle, the former Muskegon goaltender, somewhere on this list, but I won't argue a lot about Savage's picks.
In Savage's blog, he also states that Nick Stajduhar was the most talented player to come through the league, if you count a full season. That stunned me. He was a decent player with the Komets, at a higher level, but I can name a bunch of other defensemen I would take over him at the AA tier, including Guy Dupuis and Kelly Perrault.
If one season is the criteria, I'll have to think about that one some more.
Well, wish me a happy birthday and tune in to 98.9 FM on Tuesday at 9 a.m. for my weekly chat with the boys on the TNT Morning Show.

From one birthday boy to another, happy b-day Justin!
Posted by: Iceman2415 | October 30, 2007 at 05:50 AM
Justin,
If I read you correctly it says Nick Stajduhar was the most "talented" player to ever play in the UHL. It did not mean "best" player or "most reliable" player. Then you come up with Guy Dupuis? Of course Guy is a great asset to any team but when it comes to "talent" or "skills" he is was behind MANY players! Guy is a hard worker and he will get the job done at any price but he is not the most gifted guy when it comes to pure "talent" or "skills".
Take Ryan Smith for example and compare him to I don't know.. Ales Hemsky. Any GM would probably take Ryan Smith before Hemsky but Hemsky is WAY more talented then Smith!
Oh.. and Happy Birthday!

Happy B Day!!!
I pasted a link to the CHL website where they advertise you can watch the games for free on the internet. Not sure if there's a catch to this or not, but a free game is a free game.

Welcome back Brent! I remember Boucher when he played in the "U". He is an upgrade from Hanna Montana.

With Woods and Henley in the fold our toughness issue has finally been addressed! Nice to see we have been actively pursuing a new goaltender. Does anyone know anything about Boucher?
Posted by: gobluerulz | October 30, 2007 at 12:44 PM
Boucher has been a starting goalie, but that's all I really know about him, stats: http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php3?pid=49679

oh i get it the frankes wanted to give justin a story for his bday so the held off on henley until today...
Posted by: Andy | October 30, 2007 at 01:00 PM
I think having Henley signed is a good birthday present for JC. And, gobluerulz, don't forget about Legault in the toughness category too.
Posted by: Ex-STH | October 30, 2007 at 01:29 PM
And Bert.
Posted by: Ex-STH | October 30, 2007 at 02:09 PM
So far I have only seen 1 apology to K's Mgm and their addressing of the "toughness issue". Come on all you pre-season bashers time to eat your words. Three games into the season now and we have 4-5 guys that can go on ice patroll.
Posted by: wingmnn | October 30, 2007 at 02:56 PM
Happy Birthday Justin!

And Kudos to the awesome guy that did apologize. =)
Posted by: Jungle Monkey | October 30, 2007 at 03:32 PM
Good point EX, I did forget to mention Legault and Bert. I never publicly bashed the K's, but I was definitely concerned about their toughness!
Posted by: gobluerulz | October 30, 2007 at 03:37 PM
Fight-Fight-Fight!!!! I still would like another fighter .Some like Morencey-Chaz Johnson!!!

Yes JM THANK-YOU for that bottom of the Heart apology. ;-) Now bow down and worship chuckit, others, and me for our voices of reason. Hey Justin happy birthday you old fart!!! Hahahah.
Posted by: wingmnn | October 30, 2007 at 04:40 PM
I dont think we have seen alot of toughness out of Legault. He should be hitting hard with that wait and hes pretty slow. I thought he would do more so far. we will see though. Bringing Henley and Woods this past week really skyrocketed our toughness. Both players play a very tough hard hitting game.
Why would we have to apologize about not having toughness? Just because we thought we need more toughness does not meen we are bashing things. We didn't have much then and we do now and thats what we got. Whats the big deal? I don't think there is a problem with talking about the need of toughness. Just because some people thought we didn't need it or said they "knew" we were getting some doesnt mean YOU are right. Thats your opinion. We stated ours, you stated yours, now we have to apoligize? HA.

Happy Bday JC. keep up the good work. PARTY AT YOUR HOUSE????? hahaha.
by the way close to the beginning of the year lets get a bunch of us together and hit up some road games.
can we rally enough people? would be nice to invade an opponents arena with as many Ks fans as we can get. lets make this work !
Posted by: JW | October 30, 2007 at 05:19 PM
I told Verizon that I want the Big Ten Network and about 50 more HD channels, when they get those for me in 4-5 months, I will apologize to them for wanting a certain product as a customer...
Actually, I think it is pretty cool that this year, so far, they delivered on what all of us fans have been wanting. So for that, I say thank you. I took the wait and see approach all off-season. I criticized effort in one pre-season game. But overall, I have been singing the praises of the product this year and have defended this team and the league. Thus far, I am sold on it all. Keep up the good work.
When might we see Mr. Henley? I heard within 2 weeks...anyone know for sure?
I know very little about the new goalie. Just his stats. Not so good in Elvira. Pretty good in Muskegon.
Posted by: Hit Somebody!!! | October 30, 2007 at 05:22 PM
Lets just be happy that the toughness issue seems settled...
I also heard that he could be ready by Nov. 22nd or so...
And add Granbois to the toughness list, i think someone said that he will pretty much go with anybody and hits alot...
Posted by: JR | October 30, 2007 at 05:40 PM
My source told me last wek Brent was planning on flying in on the 11th, just in time for Abby and my birthday!
Posted by: deuce | October 30, 2007 at 05:59 PM
yea he starts practicing on the 12th I think and he can maybe play by nov. 22. I don't granbois will go with anyone but he can play a tough game.
Posted by: lovelost | October 30, 2007 at 06:46 PM
Wasn't Boucher the one who lasted like 4 OTs in the playoffs with Muskegon last year or the year before?
Posted by: J-Rid | October 30, 2007 at 07:50 PM
Lovelost I was talking about the people that kept saying that the Frankes didn't know what they are doing and that they were liars in reguards to puting toughness on this years team and that Sims could not recruit. Those are who I am talking about. If you are one of those then yes I think at least an aknowledgment that you may have been hasty with those comments before 1 game was played. If you were not then don't worry about it.
Posted by: wingmnn | October 30, 2007 at 08:51 PM
Wingman...drop it before you start a war on here. It is not worth it. If you somehow feel special because of all of this...great. Let's move on.
Posted by: Hit Somebody!!! | October 30, 2007 at 08:57 PM
I was questioning the Frankes for awhile because they said we would have some and we didn't at the time. I think we really didn't till we signed Woods and Henley that we can say we have overall toughn ess on this team in my opinion. Bertram and Curadeau were the only ones really laying checks that were noticable in the first few games. Legault had some good ones but he needs to skate harder. With the excitement in Woods and bringing in Henley that always is a good hitter brings in alot of tough hockey playing.

my daughter did this video thing, not bad for a teenager.

Just like all of you were talking about it is a long season let's see what happens, I remind you it is still a long season. Henley is a tough dude but he is also coming off a serious knee injury so I doubt he is going to come out the gate swinging. Woods was sent here by Bingham, Franke did not find him nor did Sims. The only one they have claim to is Legault and taking a gamble on Bertram and we will see how Henley does. Now with all these signed guys who gets put on IR or wavied. Who sits on Defense when Henley gets put in the lineup? Who sits as a forward? I really can not see them dressing Henley, Bertram, Hansen, Woods, and Legault in the same game, would be nice, but not possible. As of right now toughness issue will be clearly solved when Henley comes back and is healthy. As for me having to admit that I am wrong no chance because I am never wrong...(that is a joke so don't start flaming me)

Anyone going to K-Zoo Sunday or is everyone staying home to watch the Colts? Happy Birthday Justin!!!! I know you won't be in K-Zoo Sunday!!

Great Video your daughter did Burgee...great signings with Boucher and Henley being back is going to be great. Think about the bloomington games with Henley back, a lot more excitement!! no one will be picking on woods that game..or anyone else...and we dont have to rely on reiter playing every single game and we have a reliable backup
Posted by: kometfan | October 30, 2007 at 09:44 PM
I don't know about you guys but I feel bigger now with Henley signed. I hope my clothes still fit me when I get ready for work tomorrow.
I definately like what I am seeing on this squad. Don't bother asking for apologies or I'm sorries from anyone. Since its a long season, they'll back at some point.
Posted by: scoops | October 30, 2007 at 10:29 PM
Burgee,
Please tell your teenager she did a wonderful job!

wing man its not worth the bother. nobody cares what they say when nobody has to face up to it for real.

Burgee,
Tell your daughter that she did a nice job with the video scrapbook!

No one needs to apologize, it's a blog.
Posted by: Junior | October 31, 2007 at 07:44 AM
First, regarding the toughness issue, the reason everyone was saying they were concerned was because of the lack of toughness in the past 5-6 years for the Komets... Every year the Komets said they were going to address it and every year passed without it being addressed... I would say they have definitely addressed it this year though.
