Former Komets forward Matt Syroczynski and former Quad City Mallards forward Justin Chwedoruk, whose rights in the International Hockey League are possessed by the Komets, were released by the ECHL's Elmira Jackals.
Fort Wayne general manager David Franke said he is interested in brining in both players, and has already called their agents, but they are evaluating other options before they decide on whether to pursue anything with Fort Wayne.
Also, the Komets continue to monitor goaltenders waived in other leagues, but for now they're sticking with their current combination of Kevin Reiter and Adam Hanna.
As for speculation the Komets would bring in enforcer Jason Bone, waived by Port Huron last weekend -- Franke said, no way.

They both would be solid signings. That would add some much needed speed and scoring with Chwedoruk and more size and scoring ability with Syrozynski.

So was Trembley release from Elmira as well??? That would be cool if they could sign all three
Posted by: IcyKometsFan84 | October 15, 2007 at 08:42 PM
I wouldn't hold your breath on these. Syroczynski definitely wants to be in the ECHL. And Chwedoruk had his chances to come here and turned them down. Still, now that the Komets have a roster, maybe they'll look more attractive. But I doubt that have the money for both of these guys at this point.
Posted by: Justin Cohn | October 15, 2007 at 08:51 PM
Getting Syro and Chewy would be a GREAT offensive push for the Komets. Plus we could use some of the rookies on D. Plus with Henley about to sign Syro and Henley would tough the team up alot. Lets hope we get these three. I believe Syro would end up here but I have a feeling Chewy will go to the CHL.
Posted by: lovelost | October 15, 2007 at 08:54 PM
And here we all thought that everyone was dying to play hockey in Fort Wayne....at least we have been told that. LOL
Posted by: Hit Somebody!!! | October 15, 2007 at 08:59 PM
According to most press sources, Henley isn't to convinced on signing Love Lost...
Posted by: Andrew | October 15, 2007 at 09:25 PM
Sounds like he is giving us the old "thanks but not thanks" doesn't it? That is a shame. Whenever you hear a guy say it isn't about the money...ummm....it is most definitely about the money. I thought the Frankes were holded onto some dough for a veteran player or much needed guy?
Posted by: Hit Somebody!!! | October 15, 2007 at 09:29 PM
yeah this is like bruce richardson all over again....but we really need henley
Posted by: IcyKometsFan84 | October 15, 2007 at 09:32 PM
He did say some good things about the Komets and said if he doesn't come he will make sure to bring someone here of good status. Lets just get our hopes up. haha
Posted by: lovelost | October 15, 2007 at 09:32 PM
St. Pierre said.....It isn't about the money.
Richardson said.....It isn't about the money.
Henley said.....It isn't about the money.
It is about the MONEY!!! Duh....
Posted by: Hit Somebody!!! | October 15, 2007 at 09:36 PM
Pierre said is was for his family so he could be closer to them. I can believe that had alot to do with it. but yes money was involved also.
Posted by: lovelost | October 15, 2007 at 09:37 PM
Now Frenchy has Kiyaga, Guinn and Lackner playing in front of him in Tulsa...LOL He must feel like he is in Wisconsin playing with those guys. (Swiss Cheese). Hope he is making lots of money there.
Posted by: Hit Somebody!!! | October 15, 2007 at 09:38 PM
Pulcrapski said he went to coach Chicago so his wife could pursue her acting career.
Guys say lots of stuff when they leave to make it look good. These guys leave for more money. Bottom line!!! I don't blame them. Gotta get it while you can.
Posted by: Hit Somebody!!! | October 15, 2007 at 09:40 PM
Oh no, the sky is falling, Brent Henley might not play in Fort Wayne. He's a good player, but wow, I've never seen more ado about a guy who spent a couple months here. Chad Cabana didn't get this much hype and he was the final piece in a championship.
Posted by: Justin Cohn | October 15, 2007 at 09:42 PM
Chad Who???
Posted by: IcyKometsFan84 | October 15, 2007 at 09:47 PM
Oh no, the sky is falling. People actually like the players at times that come to play here and would enjoy seeing them comeback especially when they are players that are fun to watch, play hard-nosed, and play their position well. If you didn't notice Justin, this team is in need of toughness and Brent would bring that to the team. Alot of people would forgive this soft bunch that has been put together if you had a couple of Henleys or Bertrams or Legaults on the team. The more toughness on this team the better. Maybe it would rub off on the others if you had more playing tough. The weak Euro crap will not cut it against this league this season. The league moves towards physical hockey and the Komets so far aren't anywhere near that model...Once Again.
The sky is falling?
Posted by: Hit Somebody!!! | October 15, 2007 at 09:50 PM
Plus Justin, aren't you and Blake just writers for the team and not fans? You shouldn't care either way. So why not error towards what the fans like? No....why do that. LOL It is more fun writing about Arthur Kiyaga and Rob Guinn than about guys that actually play exciting hockey.
Posted by: Hit Somebody!!! | October 15, 2007 at 09:55 PM
We have a chance to bring in Jason Boone and our mighty leader says no way, but we are looking for toughness...Ok time to call it like I see it, David Franke lies through his teeth when comes to wanting to assemble a tough hockey club. He only does it when he has to because our superstars are getting bruised and battered by being run by the other teams "tough" guys with no pay back. Example, Henely not in the line up against Rockford so Rockford's tough guys take runs and fight light weights, we put Henely in the line up and all the mickey mouse stuff stops and even Watson says no thanks to Mr. Henely. There will be no significant signings for the next couple of weeks to a month because we will take a wait and see approach. Get ready for some boring Euro Hockey at the Coliseum.
Posted by: David | October 15, 2007 at 10:13 PM
Jason Bone sucks.
Posted by: lovelost | October 15, 2007 at 10:14 PM
Settle down, Hit, or I'll have to start "erroring" toward the fans. And I'm a writer for the team? What the heck is that? ... Hey, I think Henley is a good player, and heck yes, the Komets need a heckuva lot more toughess, but my point is simply that Henley is spoken about like he saved the city from a great fire, or walked on water, or even hoisted a trophy; I don't know that he did anything to earn all that.
I have to admit, the negativity is getting to even me here. Please, for the sake of us all, be a little positive.
And you know what, get over the Rob Guinn thing. Mercy.
I don't know that I can make a valid statement on Jason Bone. Some people like him. Others thing he's terrible. I didn't pay enough attention to him, I guess.
And whomever didn't know who Chad Cabana was, I hope you weren't watching the team in 2003. That would be embarrassing -- for you.
Posted by: Justin Cohn | October 15, 2007 at 10:19 PM
Maybe I'll have to start approving comments before they're posted, just so the people who don't think the world is ending tomorrow can get a word in edgewise.
Posted by: Justin Cohn | October 15, 2007 at 10:20 PM
That is the plan it seems. Lets preach physical hockey during the off-season to sucker in ticket sales, and then put a non-physical team on the ice in a league that is making an effort to put physical hockey on the front-burner. You think Kalamazoo pushed us around? Wait until we play Port Huron or Flint or Muskegon.
I know I know....it was pre-season. But you can only go by what you have seen so far. K-Zoo sure did play physical. Why didn't we, again? Refresh my memory.
Posted by: Hit Somebody!!! | October 15, 2007 at 10:20 PM
And one more thing, who is this Blake person of which you speak? Never heard of him.
Posted by: Justin Cohn | October 15, 2007 at 10:21 PM
If they want to explore options yet at the higher levels so be it. They are young yet and are looking to gain some notice at a higher level. Chewy and Syro would be nice additions to this team. It might even light a fire under some of the other guys who may not want a ticket out of town.
Posted by: scoops | October 15, 2007 at 10:23 PM
I don't always agree with David Franke, but he is correct on Jason Bone. He is one dimensional and is past his prime fighting wise anyways which is the only thing he brings to the table. Toughness is useless if its always sitting on the bench.
Henley is a much better fighter and a MUCH better player then Bone is...I just hope they find a way to get him signed.
I think one thing Syro and Chewy should consider is sometimes its better to play where you are WANTED. If you are good enough, no matter where you play in the minors the higher ups will notice.
They may feel being with an affiliated team is the way to go, but if you are not under contract, the affiliated players will always get priority over them.
Posted by: K.M. | October 15, 2007 at 10:24 PM
Thanks for approving my comments.
You don't write about the Komets? Must be another Justin Cohn I guess. LOL
It is just funny how so many people are apologists for why this team builds up an image about Toughness and it always falls through. Always an excuse.
No one said the world was ending. I really don't care that much about it. I just was making conversation. Maybe others should relax. MAN!
Posted by: Hit Somebody!!! | October 15, 2007 at 10:26 PM
Oh, my goodness, constructive comments. Thank you !!!....!!!!...!!!
Posted by: Justin Cohn | October 15, 2007 at 10:26 PM
That's not what you said, Hit, you said writers "for the team" and "not for the fans" which implies something much different. ... And don't start with the capitalizing everything; I'm the only one allowed to do that.
Posted by: Justin Cohn | October 15, 2007 at 10:28 PM
You do write for the team...just a way of saying it. If there wasn't a team here, then you wouldn't be writing for it. Maybe should have said ABOUT instead of FOR. Sorry. I feel like I am back in Honors English Class. Thanks for that flashback...that explains the weird creepy feeling I just had.
Not Fans....meaning that you 2 are not fans. You know the whole Super Fan joke...come on MAN!!! Don't twist it like I used to. Funny Boy! You kill me MAN.

With one blog you get double the whining Justin. We have not played a single game that means anything and already we are soft and Euro. Midseason form around here I'd say.
If you soley bought season tickets because you were promised toughness and a free T-shirt then thats a YOU problem. But again, let the season get here first. Your asking Santa for some Lego's for Christmas and then complaining about it December 21st because you haven't gotten them yet.
Relax

Komet Apologist #1
You never answered why K-zoo played so hard the other night.
Posted by: Hit Somebody!!! | October 15, 2007 at 10:38 PM
seems like the Komets are a huge source of anger for alot of people. if year in and year out the frankes and Komets fall short of your expectations why dont you become a fan of something else?.. will live longer if you can find something that causes a little less stress..
Frankes are not gonna get rid of all our euro players and bring in the toughness you seek. Reason they wont is b/c once they do people will start to cry for more scorers..
Bottom line is, if they make A and B happy then C and D will complain.
If you are part of a group that always is on the outs, and always complainging then perhaps the direction of the Komets and this sport is not for you.. so lower your blood preasure a few points and watch golf insteed.
Good luck Komets.. look forward to an interesting season for sure!
Posted by: komets123 | October 15, 2007 at 10:42 PM
Ok...thanks 123. I will watch golf insteed...LOL

our prayers have been answered then. thanks
Posted by: Komets123 | October 15, 2007 at 10:46 PM
Really...I hate physical hockey. I want whatever they give us. I don't know why any of us really care about it. I will just go with the flow on this one.
Go Komets.
Posted by: Hit Somebody!!! | October 15, 2007 at 10:47 PM
Hit, pay attention now, I write for a newspaper. I don't write for the team. I write about the team. For the team implies I answer to them in some fashion. I do not. Got it? Good.
As for other matters, Hit and other always negative people, I enourage you to speak your minds, but do you realize that you scare some people away? Do you care? I think you should; they are your fellow fans and are just as insightful and deserving of opinion-making.
Posted by: Justin Cohn | October 15, 2007 at 10:52 PM
Conversations about IHL being physical or not is negative. OK
I never accused you of writing FOR the team or answering to them. I was poking fun at Blake Sebring's whole thing about not being a fan. I explained that. I should have worded it differently.
Excuse those fans who feel passionately about their team and want a certain style of hockey that has been marketed over and over again this summer.
Sorry for wanting Brent Henley on the team.
Sorry for being sarcastic.
Sorry for typing MAN in capital letters like KW used to do.
Sorry for asking Scoops why K-zoo played hard and we didn't, even though it was pre-season. Just thought guys would want to make a good first impression on their new coach.
I have kept an open mind to the team and league and still do. I was just conversating about what others were saying. Sorry about that to.
I will conform to what you want Justin.
Whatever they want is fine by me. I will still cheer them on and will still dish out the dough for the Komets as always.
I am truly excited about this season and have been since the end of last season.
Sorry.
Posted by: Hit Somebody!!! | October 15, 2007 at 11:01 PM
Well, good, as long as you realize you were wrong. Haahahahahaha.
Seriously though, I think some people forget how good they've got it around here.
Anyway, here, feel free to bother this guy. He'll tell you how much the IHL stinks. http://www.pjstar.com/php/index.php?/eminian
Posted by: Justin Cohn | October 15, 2007 at 11:08 PM
That would be like talking to the wall. I all ready defended the league on his blog and it went over so well. I really believe in what the league is trying to become and really want the best for the Komets. I just want them to deliver on what they say.
I really am not being negative. I just want them to deliver on what they are marketing this year. Do you understand that? I would love to see the style of play that is exciting. Bodychecking has become a lost art. I guess I am asking for too much. I will have to settle for the other teams coming in doing that to our players I guess.
I am holding out hope though.
Posted by: Hit Somebody!!! | October 15, 2007 at 11:12 PM
What, do you think I'm a pacifist? I've been calling for physical play for ages. I want fights, body checks, battling in front of the net. ... Guess what? I don't think it'll be much more physical at all this season. Sorry. And I don't just mean in Fort Wayne; I mean in the whole league.
Posted by: Justin Cohn | October 15, 2007 at 11:15 PM
Bruce Ramsay's team will get after it night after night. He demands it.
Flint is building a team that the fans there have been begging for. And looks like they just might get it.
K-Zoo bodied-up the Komets Saturday night well. #9 for them hit everything in sight and lots of other guys were following his lead.
It is not that much to ask of a team to do that. Play hard, hustle, play physical, play each game like it might be your last one....
The IHL is blowing smoke if teams don't play that way.
This is a crucial year for all 6 cities that have committed themselves to this new league. Alot is riding on this year.
I am not being negative about this. I just think it is important that they do what they say.
Posted by: Hit Somebody!!! | October 15, 2007 at 11:24 PM
For one, I am not an apologist. I am willing to give these players a chance to see what they can do in a new league. Not make judgements after 2 PREseason games or even 10 regular season games. Lets get a month into the season and see where we stand with OUR team and then compare it where we stand against others.
You fail to realize that alot of us want to see some of what you, David, and some of the others complain about.....almost daily. The reality is most of the Komet faithful who don't blog here will support this team no matter what happens night in and night out. They think the guys walk on water.
Of those who actively speak here, most are willing to see what happens. Not complain about it today, tomorrow, a week ago, or for the last month. Same irrational speak over and over. There is nothing wrong about speaking how you feel but some of you need to give it a rest already and let the season get here. I appreciate your passion but sometimes your completely off the reservation.

well said scoops
Posted by: Mark | October 16, 2007 at 01:14 AM
WOW...Not sure what to think about all this whining and negativity. I may be just a simpleton, but I can't wait till Saturday night for the opener. It would be nice to get some of those guys but if we don't, so what? The team hasn't even played a regular season game and we still have the whining and complaining. I don't think some of you would be happy with an NHL like team here. Lets evaluate the team after about 10 games and see where we are at. If you don't like what they (the Komets) are doing or the players they are getting/signed, don't go to the games. I for one will enjoy Komet hockey each and every year. We are who we are. I don't think the guys "walk on water" as Scoops posted. I just enjoy the hockey season. Some of you are raining on my parade by re-hashing stuff over and over and over.

Cabana was a great addition late in the season for the K's in 03.
It's a wait and see for all of these players. No one was really seen what the K's are going to be like yet. So I'll read the rest after Saturday.
Posted by: Chaulker | October 16, 2007 at 09:03 AM
I talked to someone at my job that called about tickets and they were told that Saturdays game is almost a sellout.
