Sorry I'm a bit late posting this, but I was out of town for my birthday. Finally, the Komets announced their signing of Brent Henley. I don't know if this makes them the toughest team in the league, but it does make them pretty darn tough.
Wow, if coach Al Sims ever gets mad and sends out Henley, Olivier Legault, Mitch Woods, Kevin Bertram and Kevin Hansen, I wouldn't want to be the other team. Not that I ever think that would happen. I don't think.
But let's not assume Henley is just a brute. He happens to be a really solid defenseman, which is the most important thing.
As for the signing of goaltender Nick Boucher, as with all goalies, I'll reserve judgment until I see him in game action. I hope Adam Hanna finds greener pastures; it must have been horrible to hear all the talk about when, not if, he was going to be replaced.
Meanwhile, Brendan Savage of The Flint Journal decided to take some jabs at yours truly on his blog. I have a lot of respect for Savage. He's been doing this for a long time and typically knows his stuff. But I'm a little tired of his blathering that it's horrible for other writers to comment about his blog. It's in cyberspace. It's there for discussion. No one is supposed to disagree? Can't we foster some discussion without the insults?
Moving on, according to The Port Huron Times Herald, the Icehawks traded Mark Cadotte to Muskegon for Mark Nebus.

No one EVER responds to his blogs anyways, he waits for other sites to respond then tears others down.
You did nothing wrong and didn't warrant his response.

Justin, update the poll by adding Brent Henley and then remove all of the votes from the other Komets and finally put all the votes after Brent's name.

Lol, I will change that poll when I get a chance.

You should invite Savage to a live discussion/debate on the radio show someime. I'm kinda serious. Then you could totally pwn him in "Viva Pinata."

Savage does have some nice hair though. Its kind of like a classy mullett kind of. Very respectable due coming out of Flint. In my opinion Savage 1 Cohn 0 :)

i seen that luke staufacher (sp) quit his echl team, think flint and macho man savage have a shot at him?
Posted by: hobo | November 01, 2007 at 08:22 AM
I would love to see him and Woods match up for a game. Can you imagine those two skating all over the ice. That would be fun to watch.
Posted by: Jerad Shaw | November 01, 2007 at 09:11 AM
If Flint signs Luke, they would be 6,000 over the cap and 14 players would be on IR.

For starters, Happy Birthday Justin. I have only been reading your blog for a couple weeks. I'm glad that I found it. Your input plus the readers comments have kept me hungry. What a great source of Komet info. It's great to have Brent back. He is a great overall defenceman. I was sad to hear that we could not get Erick Tremblay back in town. Prior to the start of training camp I was wishing for the Def. duo of Henley and Tremblay (Twin Towers).
Woods is a fire cracker! I felt a little buzz of anticipation when Woods stepted onto the ice after his first scrum. The only thing missing for me is the hard plays and checks along the boards. Kevin had a nice check along the boards during the first couple min. of the first home game. He was tagged with a Boarding call??? Just as your find yourself at the edge of your seat ready to cheer. BANG!!! The Ref pops your balloon. The officials are most of the problem. I have hope that this will be worked out.
GO KOMETS!

If anyone is curious...Rob Guinn is leading the CHL in a statistic.
(He has the worst +/- in the league. -10)
Posted by: Andrew | November 01, 2007 at 02:21 PM
I will definitely be interested to see how Henley does when he is able to return to the ice. I think our fighting power is there, but I'm still wanting to see more goals scored. I'm still a little nervous with this team. I feel that they still have much to prove. I checked the IHL website today and out of the top 13 goal scorers, the Komets only have one of those spots...with the talent on this team, we should possess more slots on that statistic chart. If our goalie continues his fine job, our defense continues to defend, and our forwards start scoring, we should be good, however, we need to score more. Just my opinions.

Turner is the man to arrange such a thing. What exactly would we be debating?
Posted by: Justin Cohn | November 01, 2007 at 02:32 PM
Andrew, I was blowing the figure out of proportion a bit because it seems like they are paying plenty of vets money and would have trouble staying under the cap.
Posted by: Junior | November 01, 2007 at 03:10 PM
Andrea, we're outscoring the opponent 7-1 at home. I don't think scoring goals at home will be that big of a deal. I would agree with you on the road, however, with only one road game under our belt and 3 games total, I think it is a bit early to be worried about how many goals we are netting. As for only one scorer in the top 13, agian the season is two weeks old with less than a handful of games played. The scoring has been spread out among the players, which I like, it means early on we are not depending on one or two guys to carry the load. Give it some time, the season is still way too young.
Posted by: redline | November 01, 2007 at 03:30 PM
It's 3 games people. Even if we should have 10 of the top 12 scorers in the league, I think its awful early to start worrying.
Posted by: Jungle Monkey | November 01, 2007 at 03:42 PM
Ever heard of scoring balance Andrea?
Posted by: Junior | November 01, 2007 at 04:09 PM
Its just her opinion guys....
Posted by: JR | November 01, 2007 at 05:48 PM
I didn't mean to jump on her about her opinion. I was just stating that its early. 15 games in if her points still exist, they will be very valid.
Posted by: JungleMonkey | November 01, 2007 at 08:29 PM
I'm just saying that we've played 2 games at home and both outcomes have been good.

I can't wait till Henley is ready to go. He will make our defense much better and teams will think twice about running our goalies. I think he will have a positive effect on Legualt, Bertram and Woods by easing the burden a bit. I really like the Komets toughness and the overall makeup of the team!!!!
Can't wait to see Boucher play this weekend.
Henley will own souls in the IHL this year!

Justin, I'd read every day of the week and twice on Sunday over that hack in Flint.

call me names? are you two years old? what makes you think im a guy?
Posted by: ABEATENHORSE | November 02, 2007 at 07:26 PM
ooof! if komets would have set tone early with a fight no way Port Huron scores first.
Posted by: ABEATENHORSE | November 02, 2007 at 07:39 PM
no toughness at all. someone needs to give the huron team a blast in the ying yang. if they play like this at home i am not going to buy anymore tickets. if they aint gonna win at least they can be tough and fight.
Posted by: ABEATENHORSE | November 02, 2007 at 09:28 PM
Did you go to the game Justin?
Glad the K's won...
Where is the toughness for the K's? Bertram is tough. He cannot continue to fight every battle out there. Our star players took a beating tonight. Muskegon was head hunting Chaulk, Marchant, Acquino, Shafronov, etc. Why did coach leave Woods and Legault stuck on the bench all night long until 12 seconds left in the game? Woods can actually skate and plays good hockey. I just hate it when they get us excited about a guy like Woods and then pull the rug out from under us.
Good win tonight, the physical play from the K's and excitement was gone until the last minute of the game. No one body checks. The Fury out hit us all night long. What gives? Why have guys like Woods and Legault if you aren't going to use them?
It was a good win though. I know I will take a bashing for those feelings. But everyone I talked to after the game said the same thing. Sorry in advance.
Posted by: Hit Somebody!!! | November 03, 2007 at 11:23 PM
I agree with you Hit... Woods and Legault had 1 shift in the 1st period then didn't see the ice again until 12 seconds were left to make sure the Fury didn't goon it up. With as badly as Shafranov and Marchant are playing, it just does not make any sense to play them and sit Woods and Legault. I always enjoy a good win, but I am tired of watching our team get outhit night after night, especially in our barn.
