Greg

Another goaltender whose season was cut short by injury. This has a ring of familiarity to it doesn't it?

JR

I had the same thoughts...

wingmnn

Faith my friends have faith.

David

Well Oct. 20th is right down the road and the NHL season is underway, the AHL have made their cuts and demotions so where is the toughness that we have been told year in and year out we will have. "We are waiting to see what is left over after cuts are made" Well they have been made. Every team in the "NEW" IHL seems to have gotten the memo on toughness and the Frankes seem to have missed that meeting and memo. We maybe have one guy but he is coming out of Junior hockey. What happen to all those hockey contacts that Sims had that was going to bring us what we needed. The guy he wanted was a goalie with a bum shoulder. I have waited to see what we have signed in the toughness department and on paper it is just not there. Yes we have the "fan" favorites and rightfully so, but what about the new league that is suppose to go back to the grass roots of old time hockey? I just do not see it in what we have signed thus far. Please feel free to tell me how I know someone is not tough etc...but stats are all we have at this point. Yes I want physical hockey and yes I want to see a couple of throw downs during a game. If you think 2-1 hockey games are entertaining during the regular season without any hitting or fighting I can get all that I want from the NHL at home and will choose to do so if that is what we will be subject to this year.

Greg

2-1 hockeys games can be fun and entertaning if the action is end to end and the goalies are making great saves. Not saying that's going to happen, but I am saying that those games can be entertaining without hitting and fighting. To me at least.

JR

David, All I can say is that we will have to see what kind of toughness we will have this year... Your right that if we look just at stats we may be lacking in that area; but I have a feeling that we will be ok in this area. It seems to me that we are gonna have plenty of guys who may give us the 7- 10 fights a year instaed of just one or two guys who combine for 30 or so(and looks like we may have 1 or 2 policeman canidates)... I would rather have toughness spread out thru the line up than have to wait 4 or 5 shifts for your cement head to catch up to a cheap shot artist... Having someone who is right there to step in and take care of things is much more preferable than a face off fight 10 minutes later... IMO, of course...

Greg

Besides, it's not the Occasional fight it's the haterd between teams and all the skirmishs that can come out of it that the big draw. Leagues have gotten away from that. With the reduced amount of teams and the relaxing of the Instigator rule we just might see some hatred come out.

Charlie I

to comment on injured goaltenders.. Lawson blew his knee out the season before he came here and that worked out didn't it? Heck Frenchy cut is thumb of before he came here and that worked just fine too.

wingmnn

Didn't a couple of the rookies have 120,130 pm in a couple of seasons

lovelost

Yes wingmnn, Olivier Legault. But its not all about fights and minutes. We need some bigger guys. we got some pretty even size but some other teams got alot bigger guys. Hopefully some of these older guys can still hit hard. If not we might have to play more ruks.

redline

Start the season now so we can find out about the toughness rather than speculate that we don't have any. I bet most of the players we have signed are wondering why we say they aren't tough when we haven't seen them play. Just because a player doesn't have a lot of PIM's or Fighting Majors doesn't mean he doesn't play tough. Season hasn't started yet and already we're in the cellar....let's get this season going please so maybe the suicide hotlines can get a rest.

lovelost

Is this all we have for training camp? rather than another goalie? or has anyone heard of some more names. Training camp starts Monday.

Junior

Are you kidding??? I would put money down that we have more scoring then we did last year. Plus in AA hockey, it's still early. I put the lines together once a while back, but the K's look better then decent on paper.

Do you guys want names???? It's double A hockey, they make a name for themselves every year. I'm ready for hockey season. I'm not saying anyone is wrong w/ what they are thinking. More toughness, I can see that, but I'm happy with the roster that we have and I bet you will see some great hockey this year.

lovelost

Junior, are you talking to me? I was just wondering if our roster is "set" and was just asking if we have more people coming. I am not saying we don't have a good team. We have the best veterans and scorers in the league by far.

Junior

Not at all lovelost. Just in general.

I am one that wants toughness also, I'm on the same page and I understand where people are coming from. But I just see this year as an Opp. to make some solid hockey happen. I like what Greg said, they play eachother A LOT and that's where the hatred comes in and fights happen. I would much rather watch 2 guys that dislike eachother fight, then a goon come out and pick one (WORLTON).

Go Hawks!! Justin, I'll get you a Hawks pocket schedule when I go see 'em beat the wings.

lovelost

Yes I agree. I just seems like every year we have the best hockey players and we can't make it happen. Something missing. And I think some of it has to do with toughness. Some of these enforcers out here are like that. There goons and they just go after people for no reason. Rival fights are better. When the game gets intense and fights break out. fights off of puck drops are always cool to but not just plain going after someone. Morency did that a few times last year and it was a stupid move. It causes to much penalties.

Hoss

Any more word where Chaz might go since it's not the AHL?

David

There is no way on paper this club matches what was put together last year from top to bottom period. And yes I am making an assumption about what has been signed outside of the names we already know what they bring to the table. I am talking what has been signed outside of what we brought back to this club. Yes the proof one way or another will be after the season starts, but judging from what has been signed by other clubs in this league we do not match up in the "toughness" category. Yes having a small league will create bad blood.

lovelost

we don't with toughness issue. But we have great skill. Alot of rookies to go from and alot of veterans. I think some of the players we got our questionable of thier talent. Can Shafranov still stay fit at his age? Can Bertram still play hockey? I am not saying they can't, but with Bertram being away from hockey for awhile does he still have it? Shafranov played half the games the past few years so can he play all 70+ games and still in shape.

lovelost

Chaz is in Elimira

Junior

Alright. Who scored the most last year and was second in the league??? Ruid at what, 90, being generous. Chaulk put up atleast that on average in his 3 years as a K. Shaf can put up 50 points, George is going to be good, beting 65 points, Kuk has scored some points 36 in just over 40 games last year, Reynolds was in a AHL camp and had almost 20 goals in the E, Sessa had 30 goals last year in the CHL, Marchant was at a point per game last year, and Legault had the stats in the OHL.

There is already proven players and potential, not to mention whats on the way. It's going to be different then last year, maybe have some actual "team" mentality in the locker room. Besides Ruid and maybe even a 20 goal effort by Gascon, I can't think of last years team being any better then this years.

lovelost

marchant should step it up this year.

Junior, you think George has the much talent to get 65 points?

lovelost

what do you guys think thus far what the lines will be?

redline

I'm sure Marchant will since he put up decent numbers at the end of the year with a separated shoulder. He's a gamer.

Junior

Marchant had a bad wing during the playoffs, he can plant himself in front of the net.

Depends what line he's on. Maybe that's stretching it, but I have high hopes for him this year.

If this league's not upper AA, then I would be surprised. Flint's going to be good and PH has just signed a lot of talent. Even PT has gotten a goalie from the A, besides it was out of a top 3 in the E, it's still a start.

The beauty of it is that we are going to hate all of the teams when it's all said and done.

lovelost

its funny, the rivals we have had the past few years are gone. now we will have 5.

Junior

It's going to be a battle every night, I hope. Besides the above mentioned teams, K-zoo and Musky always puts together a good team. Just wait and see people.

lovelost

yes indeed.

wingmnn

I don't think that info is right on Chaz. There has been no mention of it anywhere on Elmira'a web sight plus if you check their roster they have signed 22 players.

Jerad Shaw

Anyone planning any road trips this season?? I would like to get up to muskegy atleast once. Possibly Bloomington as well.

Tera

Yeah Jerad. We're planning a road trip to both places you mentioned...in the same weekend actually. Nov. 9th and 10th.

Greg

Tony, if you're out there,I have a message from my wife:

Alfie, Aflie, Alfie!!!!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!

Don't shoot me, I'm just the messanger.

JR

Think the K's should keep an eye on the waiver transactions for Elmira in the near future... Looking at the roster that Martinson has put together and seeing that he just signed an affiliation agreement with Columbus and Syracuse that will bring in another 5 to 6 players it would seem like the chances are good that a few pretty good hockey players will be getting cut...

Greg

I was just thinking the same thing JR. With the new affiliation with the Blue JAckets and Syracuse, I wonder what that will do to the players that Martinson was bringing in?

chuckitt

ah, thr trickle down effect will start to take place even tho most of you dont believe in it.

Junior

January 25th-26th. K's play Flint Friday then Musky on Saturday. We're hittin that road trip.

Tony E

Greg...... I am not talking to you!! And in my disgust I will do my best Ted Lilly impersonation and throw my glove down!! ;-)
Hey, at least my Windsor Spitfires have started the season 5-0!

Komets PA

BTW, if anyone is interested, the Plex is having their 1st inline hockey all star game tomorrow as reported on by the one and only JC. It should be a fun time. The teams do have some good players from high school teams as well as some of the wily old veterans from local hockey past. Unfortunately no throw downs during this event. But I'll be there playing and also doing the introductions and the stats for the game and we'll try to make it as much of a big league experience with music at the stoppages in play too. That's tomorrow @ 6 at the Plex. Hope to see some of you out there.

lovelost

Elmira is going to dominate next year with that line-up. Plus with the affiliate they got. Hopefully they lose some of those guys and we can grab them.

wingmnn

That is my point, too many guys. They are not going to keep 30 guys on the roster.

Hit Somebody!!!

I am definitely getting excited about this year. Drop The Puck!!!

This ought to be the most fun year of hockey in Fort Wayne in years. Lots of hatred between teams and lots of high spirited hockey games. What more can you ask for. The talent level seems to be right where we like it too. Add that up...and it should be a blast!

Go Komets!!!

Tony E

I could not find where we were talking about the Downie hit but Don Cherry (who for those who may not know is a big a promoter of the "tough guy" as you will find said tonight that the Downie hit was a cheap shot and if it were up to him he would have given Downie another 10 games.

Bert

Just to let anyone know thats interested. The Komets are playing FWFD in a charity softball game today at 1 pm at Turners softball field. The game is to benifit JDRF.

lovelost

What team does Bertram play on? haha.
