Defensemen Arthur Kiyaga and Andrew Lackner, who both played for the Fort Wayne Komets last season, have joined the Central Hockey League's Tulsa Oilers. Also on that team is goaltender Kevin St. Pierre, who played last season for the Komets.

Old news.

Well, I was on vacation and we hadn't reported it. So, here, it was new news. Either way, better than no news.
Posted by: Justin Cohn | August 15, 2007 at 02:41 PM
Just the start of players going to leagues that will promote them to the next level. The NHL, AHL, and the ECHL have come to an agreement with the players union (source echl.com)that no player with an NHL contract will be forced to play with anyother team outside those leagues. The ECHL is schedualing preseason games with the CHL so look for the ECHL and some of the teams from the CHL to merge in the near future. So much for IHL.

True Justin.
Posted by: Greg | August 15, 2007 at 03:16 PM
Awesome Deon L.
Thanks for the insight....BORING!
Posted by: Junior | August 15, 2007 at 04:09 PM
Why cant the Komets get connected like the Generals did. A conection with the RED WINGS would speak load for new plyers.
Posted by: Rick | August 15, 2007 at 04:09 PM
We don't know how seriously the Wings will take this affilation. Remember when the Komets had the affiliation with the DUcks back in the old IHL, IMO, that was a complete joke.
Posted by: Greg | August 15, 2007 at 04:13 PM
What was so boring about Deon's post. Settle down Junior, and I do me jr.
Posted by: HSIRI | August 15, 2007 at 04:23 PM
I said it was Awesome, what more do you want?
Posted by: Junior | August 15, 2007 at 04:44 PM
..and I do mean Awesome.
Posted by: Junior | August 15, 2007 at 04:48 PM
dont care to much about kiyaga going somewhere else but Lackner can play very good defense and i wish we could have got him pack.

What happen to the announcement that were supposed to happen today?
I don't want to say I am getting worried but the keep putting off everything. They were supposed to have peopled signed by last weekend.
Whats Going On?????????
Posted by: IcyKometsFan84 | August 15, 2007 at 07:50 PM
the agreement with the union was just that, a move to keep nhl conrated guys from goingoutside the organization which dont mean much to us as we are a non union league the last i looked. the central league is not part of that agreement. if any of their teams merge it will be the same as rockfod and qc leaving. has no bearing on the ihl. i hope all you doomsday people will have the balls to admit it that you were wrong when the ihl becomes solid. ill gladly admit im wrong but i will support the ihl and help make it a great league instead of calling it a failure before it even starts. give it time. the old ihl had numerous restarts and many many cities involved, the first year the komets joined, the ihl had six teams, the komets, the cincinati mohawks, milwaukee chiefs, grand rapids rockets, toledo mercurys and the troy bruins. all but troy are still around but in three differnt leagues. so the new ihl can grow and become what hockey needs with our support or we can stay away and let it die with no guarantee that their will ever be hockey in the fort again. its our choice! i choose to go with it and help it grow!!! if youre not willing to help, they why are you people even on here blogging? whats your point? you can call teh frankes all the names you want or put down the play and players all you want but none of it will change the frankees plan for the future so get off here and leave it to the true fans of the komets to discuss the future of the team not its death!

Well said chuck...
I had no comment except: I'm lookin forward to THIS year; Flint is going to be tough, PH is in the same boat, and K-zoo has signed some talent along with Musky. It's going to be an interesting and exciting year that I'm really lookin forward to. If things happen next year, who cares at this point.
Go K's!!!
Posted by: Junior | August 15, 2007 at 09:49 PM
Holy Cow! Does Guinn play for Tulsa too? I thought he did. Could be wrong though. That would be 3 huge hard arsed thumpers on the blue line. They will be scary. Kind of looking like Flint!

LOOKOUT French Fry...errrr...French Toast! INCOMING!!!!!!!!!
Can we all say....ICING TULSA! Feel sorry for their "Larry the PA Guy" down there.

Posted by: lovelost | August 16, 2007 at 12:46 AM
Can someone clear this up for me...arthur kiyaga wouldnt sign with komets in the big bad IHL but for a team in the CHL...is this ihl league just another SPHL??? great....what a season ahead!!!
Posted by: kometfan | August 16, 2007 at 01:25 AM
You have no clue Kometfan...Ruid, Morency, and all the others leave the K's, and you're bent out of shape about Kiyaga?!?!?!
Go check out the signings that we already have...
Posted by: Junior | August 16, 2007 at 08:05 AM
komets signed five.
Posted by: lovelost | August 16, 2007 at 01:16 PM
Kevin Rieter the goalie is one, a guy from the CHL and three rookies.
Posted by: Greg | August 16, 2007 at 01:27 PM
what about that other goalie they where looking at? I still think we need so big tough guys out there if we don't want to get beat down by flint sad to say. But I am still excited about this season.
Go Komets!!! Keep up the signing
Posted by: IcyKometFan84 | August 16, 2007 at 01:33 PM
the signing suck.
Posted by: lovelost | August 16, 2007 at 01:46 PM
Last I heard Degagne (the other goalie) was awaiting clearence to play from the doctor. Sims is really high on this kid. My gut tells me McWhinney is out of the loop. Could be in training camp to compete for back up, but who knows.
Posted by: Greg | August 16, 2007 at 01:54 PM
wow real good signings...four players we have never heard of from college and the CHL....think those are good signings..what crack are you smoking???? we dont have no robin bouchard signed....we have not one quality goal scorer in the mix...and please dont say chaulk...he never really scored more than 20 a year...all he had were assists....and he sucks in the faceoff circle!!!
Posted by: kometfan | August 16, 2007 at 02:17 PM
WOW. We ask for signings. Then we get them it turns ugly. To bad you have to report on this Justin. Stick with the Colts and let these nay-sayers suffer.
Posted by: Greg | August 16, 2007 at 02:33 PM
what happen to the rumors that we have tough guys going to sign and possibly chaz johnson?
Posted by: IcyKometFan84 | August 16, 2007 at 02:36 PM
Chaulk sucks in the faceoff circle?? What the heck were you watching when he was here?? Plus he doesn't need to score more then 20 goals. He is a pass machine who is going to make others better then what they really were (look at Goody when he played with chaulk).
Posted by: Charlie I | August 16, 2007 at 02:42 PM
I wonder if any of these nay-sayers have years of Hockey Exp. playing pro hockey (NHL), coaching (NHL), or running a profesional team. I DOUBT IT!, so if you feel free to bash all you want, if not then SHUT UP. I for one am sick of it. You nay-sayers will never be happy so go away and play with your Barbie! AHHHHH
Posted by: wingmnn | August 16, 2007 at 02:49 PM
Which is why the KOmets need to find somebody capable of scoring those goals because Chaulk (even though I believe he's quite capable) won't do it.
The Johnson siging is an unsubstanitated rumor at this point. The Komets have talked but nothing new that we've heard.
Posted by: Greg | August 16, 2007 at 02:50 PM
The naysays should join ITB and call themselves Quad City fans, at least then the stuff that they post would make sense.
Posted by: Junior | August 16, 2007 at 03:36 PM
has anyone really looked at what other teams have done and how tough these other 5 teams are looking??? Kzoo has almost everyone back from last year.....lets see....muskegon..well they always have talent...now even port huron has some decent players coming in....we have 1 good player and our best player is almsot 40....
Posted by: kometfan | August 16, 2007 at 04:03 PM
we got Chaulk and Dupius for veterans and then we got some talent with Hansen, Kulkula, Hukalo, and Granbios. These kids? who knows? and we dont have a tough guy. hansen, maybe. But thats not him. We needHEnley and we need that Manson guy.
Posted by: lovelost | August 16, 2007 at 04:05 PM
A lot of our sigings are unknow becuase most of last years team were recruited by either Binghma or Richardson, both are gone so of course the Komets are going to start from scratch. Have the Komets not been competitve since joining the UHL/IHL. They have for the most part. And we know from Sims' history here that he can coach. It's not ime to drop the puck yet so I'm going to give it some time.
Posted by: Greg | August 16, 2007 at 04:10 PM
I agree with lovelost....we have nothing and every year...oh we promise a physical team....i haven't seen a physical team yet....besides henley!!! look at what the frankes did to larocque
Posted by: kometfan | August 16, 2007 at 04:10 PM
heck right now tulsa could be a fort wayne komet all-star team..haha...wiggins, DAB, kiyaga, lackner, st. pierre, and guinn..how many more ex komets will go there
Posted by: kometfan | August 16, 2007 at 04:12 PM
Well the Frankes must have made him a scoring machine that now is making 6 figures in europe. It is frickin august 16th. We didn't sign alot of the scoring guys last year till about 2 weeks before training camp. For all we know the komets may have a few deals with guys on AHL camps right now who are there now and won't get contracts and then will come here. They could have more players signed but are not saying anything to keep in the news all summer as kind of a marketing tool. Plus as was reported the Komets made offers to most of the players from last year and they are just waiying on some of them to make-up there mind.
Posted by: Charlie I | August 16, 2007 at 04:42 PM
Wiggins got traded to Youngstown. And than he retired not before he turned the Franke's down. Sims is really bringing theam in.
Posted by: Reality | August 16, 2007 at 04:56 PM
its way early people. the frankes know how to put a team together and so does sims. heck. weve won 50 games here i think three of the last four years. so that makes the frankes stupid? toughness? im the one that usually complains the most about that, and the frankes came thru last year with the roughest and meanest team weve even had, but the players themselves are the ones who pussied up and let us down. the rock was so afraid to get suspended he even stopped checking. wasnt the frankes fault. lets wait until oct before we start calling people names and giving up. youd all be suprised as to who is waiting in the wings.........
Posted by: chuckitt | August 16, 2007 at 09:20 PM
Not real impressive yet.
Whoever said Chaulk is bad in the faceoff circle is retarded. Did you watch any of his games? Last years team couldn't win a faceoff at all. Chaulk is known for faceoffs as well as assists, toughness, leadership, and defense.
We need an offensive D-man, some hard-arses that hit everything and camp-out around the net, a legitimate scorer or 2 or 3. We have a month and a half basically.
Flint is goon central.
The fury is skilled as always and will be the team to beat.
K-zoo is bringing back star players that won a championship.
Port Urine is signing good players.
The PT look to be signing quality guys.
We have unproven guys with 2 stars, a decent goalie and a bunch of role players who don't score.
Sign some Offense please, and toughness. Not a team full of Puhulski types that all look the same.
Posted by: Hit Somebody!!! | August 16, 2007 at 09:29 PM
i watched a lot of his games when he was here..he struggled...venedam was better......and yea if we wanted a team with no toughness why bring in sims when we could have brought back ole greg puhloski?
Posted by: kometfan | August 16, 2007 at 11:01 PM
Lovelost says " the signing suck."
Wow.
Posted by: Tony E | August 17, 2007 at 01:09 AM
Chuckitt after reading this pile of lunacy all I can say is thanks for giving me a few minutes worth of something to do today. Check your mailbox in a few days.
Posted by: Tony E | August 17, 2007 at 01:15 AM
I am not going to get into a Chaulk vs Venedam debate because they are both great players and 2 of my favorites. I do think some people just get negative on here cause they are bitter in life.
Its fine if you don't like a player, but at least offer something more then he sucks or I have never seen him play...but he still sucks.
As I said on another board Sims is planning on bringing 30 players to camp, we only have 12 and LOTS of money to spend...plus 4 vet spots.
Plus so many good rumors out there that things will be exciting this year. Sims brought us the best 3 years of hockey I ever saw and the Frankes have a proven track record.
Stew on this...3 of the last 4 seasons the Komets have won 50 games or more. I think the Komets will be fine.
Posted by: K.M. | August 17, 2007 at 10:45 AM
thanks tony level heads always usually win out!
Posted by: chuckitt | August 18, 2007 at 01:07 PM
as an after thought, who cares who was better, venedam or chaulk? colin is here and sean is not, so who cares? they were both great when they were here in the past. why argue about whos better when it doesnt mean a thing to this years team? my god, fletcher was tougher than our whole team put together last year, but it doesnt matter cause he dint play last year. so who cares coin vs sean>? some people just want to complain.......
