Komets coach Pat Bingham said the team does hope to bring back goaltender Dan McWhinney and that he could vie for the No. 1 job.
This after Kevin St. Pierre accepted an offer, according to Komets general manager David Franke, to play for Tulsa of the Central Hockey League next season.
"I definitely think he's in our plans to bring back and he could challenge for the No. 1 position," Bingham said. "He hasn't proved in the past (he can be an everyday starter). But that was the great thing about Kevin -- he individually had a great year but was also a mentor (to McWhinney) and helped him make huge strides."
While Bingham was saddened to see St. Pierre go, he said losing players to lucrative offers is the price of success. And Bingham added, "I guess there's never an ideal time to lose your top goalie and really the top goalie in the league. But if you could select it, going into the summer is the best time."

I wish Frenchie the best. There were a lot of people who complained about what he did...but how could you. He was near the top in the league each year he was here. Everyone has a bad game occasionally...everyone. He was a first class citizen on and even more so off of the ice. He will be missed.
