HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. -- Finally, I've been to them all. With my visit to the Sears Centre today, I can now boast I've been to all of the UHL's arena. (Plus, there were those in New Haven, Conn., St. Charles, Mo., Asheville, N.C., Roanoke, Va., Columbus, Ohio, Fraser, Mich., Binghamton, N.Y., and so on, all of whom are no longer in the league.) Whew, that's a lot of driving.
This arena is very nice. Doesn't seem to be a bad seat in the house. I still think I like Bloomington, Ill., a little bit better, although it's much tougher to navigate that one. But this is very cool. I'd say my rankings of the best arenas, in terms of amenities and just watching a game, goes:
1) Fort Wayne
2) Kalamazoo
3) Bloomington
4) Chicago
5) Quad City
6) Elmira
7) Muskegon
8) Rockford
9) Port Huron
10) Flint
Numbers 3 through 5 on that list are pretty much interchangeable, though.
As for the game today, it's hard to imagine the Komets play much worse than they did in their 5-2 loss on Saturday, which tied their first-round series with the Chicago Hounds at one game apiece. If they don't hit, they don't win. Period.
