Before we go too far, let's get the bad out of the way. Komets coach Pat Bingham said, via telephone, he doesn't know the severity of forward Daniel Goneau's injury.
He was hit in the face by a puck Friday night and taken to a Moline, Ill., hospital for testing. It's unclear when he'll be available to return. Goneau was expected to be on the bus as the Komets return to Fort Wayne.
Now for the good: The Komets defeated the Quad City Mallards 3-2 in an overtime shootout.
"We didn't light up the scoreboard," Bingham said, "but I'm extremely pleased with a lot of the things we talked about and worked on in practice during the week. There was an attention to detail."
It resulted in goals from Bogdan Rudenko and J.C. Ruid in regulation. In the shootout, the Komets got goals from Ruid, Martin Gascon and Bruce Richardson, while goalie Kevin St. Pierre stopped 3 of 4 attempts. (The Mallards' broadcaster was whining that St. Pierre is always kicking the net off the moorings in the shootout.)
Bingham praised his team for "a gutsy effort," with several players sick and injured. He noted the Komets blocked a lot of shots and looked good defensively.
Saturday night, the Komets play host to the Port Huron Flags.
- I know everyone likes to moan and groan about the B2 Networks' internet broadcasts of games. I'm beginning to agree with you. I took a crack at it tonight and couldn't get it working until late in the second period. (Don't know if I'm getting a refund on my $6, but I don't think so.) In my probably six times of using it, I don't think it's ever gone smoothly. The good news is that the video from Quad City has several camera angles, even if they snoozed an missed one of the shots in the shootout.
- Speaking of bad deals, the Chicago Hounds' first-ever game in their supposedly NHL-caliber arena was postponed because of poor ice conditions. Whoops. Just what the UHL needed, another black eye.

Did Chaser miss the Goneau injury altogether or maybe I wasn't paying attention? I don't remember hearing him say anything about it.

I think if I am Kelly Miller, when I get that call, I laugh my arse off and hang-up the phone. They gave him no respect this year and he did the right thing for moving on. They bring him is last season and all he does is has a major role in the turn-around of a POOR team that was destined to miss the playoffs.
The real question should be, where the heck is Gabrielson? This guy is big, skates well, takes the body, and is a D-Man. We played with 5 d-men because of Captain Caveman being out with Shane Kenny disease, and he also is sitting the pine with Kiyaga in the line-up? What is the deal here? Am I missing something here?

Yes, you are missing something. Kiyaga is a rookie. Gabrielsen is not. The Komets have to play four rookies: McWhinney, Kiyaga, Styrocznski and Gascon, especially with Bozoian out of the lineup. ... Plus, Gabrielsen was on IR and wasn't available to play last night, so there was no reason to bring him on the trip.

Got ya....didn't realize he wasn't a rookie.
My bad!
