ROCKFORD, Ill. -- Greetings from Rock Vegas. Not sure why they call Rockford that -- it certainly is less-than-Vegas-like -- but it seems to have caught on. Komets defenseman Kevin Hansen called it Rock Vegas in an interview with me this week.
Always strange to come back to the place the last season ended -- especially for the next season's opener. The natural inclination, I think, is to assume things will pick up where they left off. With the Komets' roster so very different, I doubt that will be the case.
Rockford is doing its usual, promising all kinds of toughness. The Komets would do well to set the tone early with some hard checks, sending a message to one of the Colonial Cup favorites.
- The Komets have chosen their captain for the upcoming season -- it's defenseman Guy Dupuis. No surprise there, as he's a savvy veteran who's been in the organization for years.
- I was a little amused by the Rockford Register-Star today instructing fans on what to chant during games. "Tick, tick, tick, boom," after goals, by the way. Seems a little forced if you have to explain it, to me.

Newspaper instructed their readers on how to chant after a goal? LOL. You going to be able to post updates throughout the game tonight Justin? B2 doesn't seem to be working tonight.

Bob Chase just called part of the team the 'French foreign legion.' I think I'll have to use that.....

Also Rockford is the place where they play Money Money and they chant..."Hey guess what your goalie sucks!" I still prefer hey you suck at our games at least during the playoffs since we have to pamper all of the casual fans during the regular season. The playoffs the Hey song seem to rejuvinate the crowd and energy...if we get off to bad start this year I hope they bring it back.
