As the City Council gears up for its public hearing Tuesday night on Harrison Square, it is interesting to see who signed up early to speak on the topic.
The first speaker is Kirk Kemmish, the president of Northeast Indiana Corporate Council. The group consists of CEOs from northeast Indiana who have openly pushed for government consolidation.
Also in the first 10 speakers are Phil Laux, Greater Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce director, Jim Marcuccilli, of Star Financial Bank, and Bill Bean, a local businessman.
Other business executives dominate the list, many who have written in support of the project.
Opponents will get their chance in front of the council as well, as former Allen County Commissioner Ed Rousseau is at the No. 39 position. Rousseau has called for the council to delay voting on the issue until next year, when a new mayor and council take office.
Several candidates for political office are on the list as well, including Duke Brown, a Republican mayoral candidate, and Richard Cline, a Democratic council candidate. They speak in the 71st and 72nd spots respectively.
As of Monday afternoon, 100 people signed up to speak. If they each take 3 minutes, as is allowed, it will result in a five-hour public hearing.
