Deals close to done
I’ve heard this before, but it appears city officials are quite close to finalizing deals with Hardball Capital and the hotel developer.
A contingent of city officials, including Deputy Mayor Mark Becker, traveled to Atlanta last week to try to finalize a deal with Hardball, the owners of the Fort Wayne Wizards. The agreement would include specifics on financing for the project, among other details.
While a deal wasn’t struck last week, which was the original goal, Becker Monday said the meetings went well and a deal is close. The city plans to introduce the financing resolution for Harrison Square to the City Council on April 10. Becker, however, said all of the details may not be available until the April 17 meeting, when the council would likely discuss the proposal. Several members of the council said they are withholding judgment on the project until these final details are released.
Greg Leatherman, deputy director of development, was even more optimistic, saying a deal with Hardball could be done as early as this week, and one on the hotel done early next week.
Becker said once the deals are signed, they will be released to the public, likely at an official event by Mayor Graham Richard. This could happen next week.
