Two things you never say if you're an athlete and you get into an altercation with the police, as Indianapolis Colts running back Kenton Keith did in the wee hours Sunday.
Actually, it's only one thing you never say. No. 2 is only supplemental.:
1. "Don't you know who I am?"
2. "I'm a (team name here). I'm a (team name here)."
Keith found his response, foolishly, behind Door No. 2. When he refused to leave a nightclub, the police slapped bracelets on him, somehow ignoring Keith's repeated protests that "I'm a Colt, I'm a Colt."
In the past, we've favorably compared the Colts' public image with that of their NBA counterparts, the Pacers, because both organizations have earned the comparison. So it's only fair now to bang on Keith a little for being every bit as stupid as, say, Marquise Daniels or Stephen Jackson. Which is to say, no one's immune to the dumbs on occasion. Or wears a halo comfortably all the time.
