Drew Cumberland returned to the disabled list, retroactive to June 26, after tweaking his rhomboid muscle. He suffered the injury in the second inning of Wednesday’s game against West Michigan.
Cumberland had turned it on in recent weeks. He’s batting .286 with eight doubles, one home run and 17 RBI.
Outfielder Shane Buschini was reassigned to the Eugene Emeralds of the Northwest League. Buschini is hitting .261 with two homers and 24 RBI.
The Wizards added infielder Anthony Contreras and pitcher Omar Gutierrez. Contreras got the call Friday. He had been playing independent baseball in Lincoln, Nebraska. He had three hits in his first game.
“It’s good to be back in affiliated ball,” he said. “To have a good day like this the first day is always good.”
Contreras had been in San Francisco’s organization. He was released in spring training.
Gutierrez appeared in one game in Fort Wayne this year before moving back to Eugene.

OK, you've got me. What's a rhomboid muscle and what was he doing when he tweaked it?

Thanks for the message.
Manager Doug Dascenzo has pointed to the upper area of his back near the shoulder in both instances when asked to describe Cumberland's injury. The most recent injury occured after a swing. He left for the San Diego's camp in Peoria, Ariz. on July 1. No timetable for his return has been announced.
