Why no light at Butler and Hillegas?

A reader who has had some close calls at Butler and Hillegas roads asks Road Sage why the promised traffic light still isn’t up. The Journal Gazette’s Benjamin Lanka looked into the situation and said officials told them they hit a little snag in the process.

Verbatim report on inmate death

Indiana State Police report:

The Indiana State Police Criminal Investigation Division is investigating the death of an inmate of the Huntington County Jail. The ISP was called on February 27th at 7:20 p.m. informing the post of the death and Sheriff Kent Farthing requested the state police initiate an investigation.

Prior to calling the post, jail staff found the subject in his cell unresponsive. They summoned medical assistance however; the subject was pronounced dead at 6:50 p.m.

DECEASED:

Bradley Buzzard (64) of Bluffton, Indiana. The cause of his death is under investigation.

The preliminary investigation indicates there was no foul play and the death was from natural causes. The Huntington County Coroner Leon Hurlburt and Detective Matt Collins of the Criminal Investigation Division of the Indiana State Police are leading the investigation. An autopsy has been scheduled.

Bradley Buzzard was arrested and incarcerated on February 25. He was being held on a charge of Failure to Appear for a prior Battery offense. Jail records indicated that Mr. Buzzard suffered from several different medical conditions including heart/pulmonary problems and required oxygen.

The investigation is ongoing pending the results of the autopsy. When the coroner makes his determination an updated release will be sent with his findings.

Indiana scammers use death-threat e-mails

Verbatim announcement from the Indiana State Police:

Internet Scammers Stoop to New Low Yesterday evening, the Indiana State Police Post at Sellersburg was contacted by a southern Indiana resident saying she had received a death threat over the internet on her email.

The email threat basically stated that he/she was an assassin and someone had paid him/her to kill the person receiving the email. The assassin in the email goes on to say that there is a way to get out of getting killed. The assassin says in the email to send him/her $15,000.00 and he/she will spare their life. The email goes on to say not to contact the police or let anyone else know what is going on.

The Indiana State Police Post at Sellersburg was contacted again this morning by the Scott County Sheriff’s Department stating they had received a complaint of the same email to another person.

Our investigation of these email threats show us that the vast majority of all these emails are a form of what is referred to as a “Nigerian Internet Email Scam”

The Indiana State Police is advising people to never send money, give out banking information, or any other personal information over the internet unless you know the person or company you are dealing with.

The Indiana State Police also want people to understand that if they have a threat against them that they feel is legitimate they should contact their local Indiana State Police Post so an investigation can be initiated.

All internet scams should be reported to the Internet Crime Complaint Center which is operated by the F.B.I. and the National White Collar Crime Center for email scams at http://ic3.gov/.
