ALLEN COUNTY
*Fort Wayne: Fireworks begin at dusk July 4. Parking is available beginning at 3 p.m. at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne’s new Northeast Campus (the former Fort Wayne State Developmental Center) for $5 a car. Proceeds benefit IPFW Children of Alumni Scholarship Fund and the Ivy Tech Community College-Northeast Scholarship Fund. Beginning at 4 p.m., parking is available on the roof of IPFW’s Parking Garage No. 1 for $5 a car. Proceeds benefit the Children of Alumni Scholarship Fund, and drivers will receive a $5 Pizza Hut coupon. Fireworks are fired from IPFW’s Parking Garage No. 2.
*Leo-Cedarville: Fireworks begin at dusk July 4 at Riverside Gardens Park. Food, entertainment and children’s games begin at 4 p.m.

LAGRANGE COUNTY
*Topeka: Fireworks begin at dusk July 4 at Topeka East Park.
*Wolcottville: From 7 to 11 a.m. July 5, the Johnson Township Fire Department will host a pancake and sausage breakfast, and, beginning at 11 a.m., the Lakeland Show Choir will host High’s Chicken Barbecue. Both events are at Taylor Park. Ballgames will be held at both Taylor Park and Martin Park from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Music by Sound Wave begins at 7 p.m. at Taylor Park and continues until dusk when the fireworks display begins.
NOBLE COUNTY
*Albion: Fireworks start at dusk July 3 at the Central Noble School Campus.
*Kendallville: Fireworks begin at dusk July 4 at Bixler Lake.

*Angola: Angola will celebrate the holiday July 4. Events after the 1 p.m. parade will all be at Commons Park. Fireworks are at dusk.
WABASH COUNTY
*North Manchester: The celebration is July 4 at the Manchester College athletic grounds, off East Street on the northeast edge of North Manchester. At 8:30 p.m. the Manchester Civic Band will perform patriotic tunes. After a welcome at 9 p.m., several community members will read patriotic poems and portions of famous speeches between the music. Fireworks begin at 10 p.m.
*Wabash: Fireworks begin at dusk July 4 at Field of Dreams, a sports complex along Indiana 13/Manchester Avenue north of downtown Wabash. Parking is available north and east of the College Union. Rain date is July 5.
WELLS COUNTY
*Bluffton: Fireworks begin at 10 p.m. July 4 at Bluffton Middle School. At 8 p.m., Biff and the Cruisers will perform a free concert at the school.
WHITLEY COUNTY
*Columbia City: Fireworks will start at dusk July 5 at Morsches Park. Festivities start at 5 p.m. and include the grand opening for the city’s new splash pad, music and entertainment for the kids.
DEFIANCE COUNTY, OHIO

The creature approached, eerily quiet. It was longer than a Ford Expedition, impossibly elegant as it banked into a turn at the tank’s edge, flexing its gray, massive, mottled form into a parabola of living flesh.
“Oh man,” muttered Vikas Chinnan, 32, one of eight divers who had paid $290 for the privilege. “I hope they fill up our (oxygen) tanks, because I’m going to be breathing hard.”
With the Georgia Aquarium launching its “Swim With Gentle Giants” program this month – allowing a dozen swimmers and divers per day to enter the sharks’ habitat – marine experts fear it is the humans who could pose a threat.
