According to a South Bend Tribune report, sophomore tight end Will Yeatman was arrested for Operating While Impaired on Jan. 28. He posted $500 and was released the same day. Yeatman is also an All-American candidate as an attack in lacrosse.
Now what does all this mean?
At this point, it is murky other than knowing Yeatman is indefinitely suspended from both the football and lacrosse teams. But will he back this year? That's tough to say.
Fullback Rashon Powers-Neal was arrested for a similar charge in 2005 in Minnesota and ended up being suspended for the semester. In basketball, guard Kyle McAlarney had been suspended for a semester after being arrested for a marijuana-related offense.
And in August, defensive lineman Derrell Hand was suspended for three games for soliciting a prostitute. Also over the summer, quarterback Jimmy Clausen was cited for transporting alcohol. All he did was offer up an apology, although to be clear, this was a very minor offense.
What happens with Yeatman? That's for the local government in South Bend and for the Notre Dame disciplinary committee to decide.
