Report: Hunter Decommits From Notre Dame
Defensive tackle Omar Hunter has decommitted from his verbal pledge to attend Notre Dame, ESPN.com is reporting.
Hunter, a four-star Rivals.com recruit from Buford, Ga., is now considering Florida, Auburn and USC according to the report. He is the first player to leave Notre Dame’s Class of 2008, which has been touted as among the best in the country by recruiting services.

If Omar Hunter decommits, Notre Dame doesn't need him. A player who makes a commitment should stick with it. His decision to decommit shows a lack of character and integrity, which are character flaws that Notre Dame can do without.

I wander if Urban Meyer's dirty recruiting has something to do with this?

A decision to decommit shows a lack of character and integrity, do you mean like Jonas Gray or Trevor Robinson?

I don't really have a problem with him decommitting if he's up-front with the staff about it, but this looks an awful lot like some of the cases last year where the player was either wavering or an outright switch but sat on it to try to screw our coaching staff. Such a lack of honesty reflects as poorly on the player who does it as it does on the coaching staff that urges him to.

The comparisons of Hunter to Trevor Robinson and Jonas Gray are inaccurate. Both Robinson and Gray only decommitted from Nebraska because of the uncertainty about Bill Callahan's future. Gray admitted he chose Nebraska because he liked Callahan and not so much because of the school. When Callahan was fired that changed things.
Until ND shows more promise and competes with top programs on the field they will continue to lose top recruits. What kid wants to go 3-9 or get blown out every time you play a top 10 or 15 team? Does anyone honestly think Hunter would have decommitted if ND went 10-2 and won a bowl game?
Then you have a head coach who admits in press conferences he doesn't know what the h*ll he's doing and must consult with the NE Patriots during the off season. That should give 18yr old recruits loads of confidence.
Charlie Weis seems to think the NE Patriots blueprint is the answer for everything and until he can adapt to the college game and learn to motivate players, we as ND fans can expect more blowout losses and losing seasons.
