Charlie Weis' Top 25
Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis is one of the coaches voting in the USA Today Top 25 poll -- one of the three factors in determining who plays in the national championship game.
As per USA Today's decision, the final poll is the only one released to the public. Weis had Ohio State No. 1 and Georgia No. 2.
With so much controversy as to who would go, Weis didn't want to stray too much from what he had in previous weeks.
"I just toed the party line this year down the stretch," Weis said. "I spend time with Tim (McDonnell) and we look at it every week, look where everyone is and say 'OK, here's where they are based off of how they are playing.' You can say whatever you want but the way the thing played out, I mean, I ended up voting Ohio State 1 and Georgia 2 because that's where they were on the line. They were 3 and 4.
"Not that I'm a big fan of Ohio State or Georgia or anyone else, but if you're next in line and you don't play and teams ahead of you lose, you move up. I don't know how you get penalized for not playing. If I were (Georgia coach) Mark Richt, I'd be out there whining today."
Weis' Top 25 didn't have too many surprises on it -- as evidenced below -- other than Kansas being well ahead of Missouri.
1. Ohio State
2. Georgia
3. Oklahoma
4. Louisiana State
5. Virginia Tech
6. Kansas
7. USC
8. Hawaii
9. West Virginia
10. Missouri
11. Florida
12. Arizona State
13. Illinois
14. Wisconsin
15. Boston College
16. Clemson
17. Texas
18. BYU
19. Virginia
20. Auburn
21. Boise State
22. Cincinnati
23. Arkansas
24. Tennessee
25. Air Force
Interestingly enough, Weis had three teams Notre Dame lost to -- USC, Boston College and Air Force -- on his final ballot.

What the hell is 'interesting' about Weis having Southern Cal and BC ranked? Air Force ranked may be interesting, but not the other two. I think I would rank Navy before I would rank Air Force.

Michael,
Great work this season. I don't get a lot of Weis' choices here, but then again, nothing seems to make sense about college football this year ... including ND having the top recruiting class after going 3-9.
Aaron Taylor had an interesting player perspective on the recruiting weekend on his site, legendsofsouthbend.com, today.
Here's hoping Weis can keep that class together ... and coach them to get better once they're on campus!

What? Why is it interesting that Weis had USC, Air Force and BC on his final ballot? You journas are clueless.

Also interesting how he put two teams he lost to in the last two bowl games in his top 5. Also interesting how he put the last few national champions on his ballot. Also interesting how he put only one directional college on his ballot. Also interesting how he put 4 teams that start with the letter A on his ballot, but only 3 teams that start with the letter B. How interesting; how bizarre.
