We're not quite sure what Charlie Weis was trying to accomplish with the fake field goal run with Evan Sharpley in the first quarter, but Navy has capitalized thus far, driving down to the 1-yard line at the end of the first quarter.
Drives like this -- almost eight minutes long -- are what Notre Dame feared.
Class move by Weis, though, giving the ball to freshman Robert Hughes on the game's first drive to score a 3-yard touchdown. The entire team pretty much hugged Hughes when he got to the sidelines and the ball was given to a ballboy, who ran back into the locker room with it. Our bet is that Hughes will want to keep it for a long, long time.

Defensive observation is that Joe Brockington is too slow. He is a step or two from making tackles and can't cover sideline to sideline.
