This just came over from the Notre Dame SID department. Former Irish quarterback Mike Courey (1977-80) has been diagnosed with cancer and according to the e-mail, the outlook is "not good."
Courey, from Sioux City, Iowa, has been to the Mayo Clinic twice for treatment.
There will be a benefit for him in the Sioux City area on Nov. 19 at Bob Roe's Steakhouse.
There is also a way to donate to Courey if you aren't in Sioux City. Send those donations to:

Whether someone is good enough to play football at Notre Dame or whether they got cut from their high school team it doesn't change the timeless truth put forth by that greatest of all philosophers David Hume, "The life of a man is of no more importance to the Universe than that of an oyster".

and Jim Ferguson is of no more importance than a cockroach. BTW Jim, Hume was, at best, a second tier philosopher whose only claim to fame was awakening Kant from his "dogmatic slumber."
Welcome home Mike
