Practice Observations, 10/3/07
Notre Dame continued practicing in the gorgeous early fall weather Wednesday, preparing for a trip to a place that will always be nicer than South Bend: Southern California.
- Wide receiver David Grimes was not at the media portion of practice Wednesday. However, after the media left, Insights drove past Grimes and cornerback Leo Ferrine being driven on to Cartier Field from the Gug in one of the gameday carts teams use to transport injured players.
- Quarterbacks coach Ron Powlus spent much of the stretching time in a conversation with Jimmy Clausen.
- We're not sure if it means anything or if he's been there the whole year, but sophomore wide receiver George West is now in the second line of stretching. Maybe it is because Grimes wasn't out there.
- Safety Tom Zbikowski has been wearing long sleeves despite the nice weather the past two days.
- When Clausen and Evan Sharpley tossed the ball back and forth, both looked healthy. Clausen, though, took extra steps to throw in the warmup while Sharpley tossed it back with ease.
- Freshman linebacker Aaron Nagel was forced to repeat a drill by Brian Polian because he had reverted to a bad habit.
- In another drill, Polian used what looked like a giant blue Snickers bar to hit his players as they came running by. Their job was to swipe the Snickers with their hands as he wailed on them. Scott Smith hit it especially hard, prompting Polian to ask "Do something to upset you?"
As always, don't forget about the predictions contest. Send your final score guesses to mrothstein@jg.net. Also send questions there for the Friday Mailbag.

Michael,
it's good to know about the practices. One can always dream about the improvements that will be coming on gameday.

If you need any more evidence that BC is nothing more than a moldy sock left behind in your freshman dorm (used for illicit purposes) - just ask yourselves who produces the best television personalities...we have Joe Theisman and Musberger, they have Flutie and Joe Tessitore.
'Nuf said.
