Joyce Center Upgrade Date officially set

The Joyce Center renovation project will officially begin in September 2008, Notre Dame announced Wednesday.
The $26.3 million project will be completed in phases so as to not kick out Notre Dame's basketball and volleyball teams. The first part will be the construction of a three-story add-on at the arena's south end. It will include a two-story lobby, the Notre Dame ticket office, a souvenir shop as well as club seating and a hospitality area.
The seating replacement in the bowl of the arena will begin after Notre Dame's graduation ceremonies in May 2009 with a completion date in January, 2010. Notre Dame expects the arena to re-open by mid-October 2009 in time for the start of the men's and women's basketball seasons and the end of the women's volleyball season.
