It's Fun, it's happy...It's FieldTurf (and other notes)

Among the highlights of Charlie Weis' Wednesday press conference:

• Notre Dame's practice football fields are getting FieldTurf. The reasoning is multifaceted. The first reason is so the team can practice year-round. The other is to give Notre Dame's rec sports program use of the fields in times the Irish aren't using them.
• Jimmy Clausen has run better than expected and Weis is confident he'll be ready Saturday.
• Both Dan Wenger and David Grimes will travel to Southern California. At this point Grimes is a game-time decision.
• Notre Dame's Tuesday practice was the best -- from a physical standpoint -- the Irish have had in Weis' three year tenure in South Bend.
