Derrell Hand suspended

Notre Dame junior defensive lineman Derrell Hand has been suspended indefinitely from the Irish football team for an undisclosed violation of team rules, Irish coach Charlie Weis announced Friday afternoon.

The 20-year-old Hand, a 6-foot-3, 287-pounder from Philadelphia, had been thought of as a contender for playing time in the 2007 after two years of sitting on the bench for Notre Dame.

An e-mail sent to Hand's Notre Dame e-mail account went unreturned. Notre Dame football media relations director Brian Hardin said he had no other information regarding Hand's suspension but said Hand is still enrolled in the school.
