Akers In Semis

Former Notre Dame volleyball player and Fort Wayne native Angie Akers qualified for the semifinals of the AVP Chicago Open. Both the semifinals and finals will be played Sunday at North Avenue Beach, with the finals being televised by NBC at 4:30 p.m. Eastern.

Akers and her partner, Brooke Hanson, can do no worse than fourth so they already have their best finish of the season. Akers has never played in a final and has one third place finish since joining the AVP Tour in 2002.

It has been a whirlwind year for Akers, who has traveled to Kosovo and Rio de Janeiro along with her AVP stops. She also keeps a blog on her Web site, which she updates regularly.
