As reported in this space Monday, Derrell Hand entered St. Joseph County's pre-trial diversion program today in place of being arraigned in court.
The exact details of his agreement include paying $316 in court costs, not commit any criminal offense for a year, submit to an HIV/AIDS test and answer any and all questions from the police and prosecutor's office -- including questions germane to his case. If Hand completes all of this, the charge will be dismissed in a year.
Now, Hand must wait until school starts again to find out how the university will handle his arrest.

michael,
1. and, with respect to my previous question about that one real cancer in notre dame's body and soul, what about gathering all the information you have about the nameless, faceless, people at nd who get their power rushes from enforcing an inquistion era student disclplinary system and burning everyone accused of anything at the stake?
2. we all know that this system has, and will continue to, drive many fine students and student athletes away from notre dame.
3. a public announcement that derrell hand will be treated in a manner consistent with due process of law, basic ethical fairness, and the principles of catholicism and of the other religions sure would affect the decisions of quite a few fine students and student athletes who are considering nd for the class of 2008 and for future years.
4. you obviously have the contacts and the knowledge to expose the people who have been doing this and to force a change.
5. hand has already been pilloried in the press and has made his peace with the legal authorities with a clear understanding that any 3rd chance will come at a much higher price.
6. by being silent, are you going to cooperate, by being silent, with the current grand inquisitors at notre dame who, unless they are forced to change by being exposed to the nd community and to the public, will impose on hand their one punishment fits all accusations on derrell hand- burn him at the stake?
7.you have an opportunity to do something crucial for notre dame.
