Notre Dame picked up its 19th football commitment Monday when linebacker Steven Filer from Mt. Carmel (Ill.) High School selected the Irish over Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin and others, multiple sources have reported.
Filer, a 6-foot-3, 220-pound four-star Rivals.com recruit, is the third Chicago area kid to commit to Notre Dame and joins David Posluszny (Aliquippa, Pa.) and Anthony McDonald (Sherman Oaks, Calif.) as the third linebacker to verbally select the Irish in the Class of 2008.
Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis is not allowed to speak about individual commitments until National Signing Day in February, due to NCAA rules.
