Bubbles everywhere were saved Monday night as VCU held off last year's George Mason sensation in the CAA and Gonzaga sent Dick Davey into retirement in the West Coast Conference.
None of these games affected Notre Dame, which remains a No. 6 seed in the South, heading to Lexington to face Winthrop according to Joe Lunardi. That pod could change after tonight, as Wright State and Butler play in the Horizon final. Currently, Lunardi has Memphis and Wright State playing the ND-Winthrop winner. If Wright State loses, it could be out and shuffle it up a little bit.
Of course, the real movement will start tomorrow when the Big East Tournament begins. Entering the Big East, ESPN has six teams from the league locked in.
At The Bracket Project, the Irish remain a No. 7 seed -- although the composite shows them as high as a four-seed (CBS Sportsline) and as low as a nine-seed (Bracket Express). The Washington Post's Eric Prisbell learned more about these bracketeers.
In The Jerome world, we picked up points with the Gonzaga win and three more bids go out today -- the aforementioned Horizon along with the Mid-Continent and Sun Belt. As for how we're doing, we'd like to throw a shout to current leader and Insights friend Kevin Pearson, who covers UCLA for the Riverside Press-Enterprise. He currently leads the 50-person field. We are in unlucky 13th place, not too bad considered our snafus with some picks. Our second group of picks are here.
