Your Daily Bracket -- Saturday
Notre Dame won its regular-season finale Saturday, but because the brackets were done before the Irish victory (we're doubting it would change anyway), nothing changed in the ESPN version. Notre Dame remained a No. 6 seed facing Illinois -- but we're thinking the Illini might have lost their way out of the tournament by falling at Iowa today. Illinois' loss might open a slot for Drexel or even in-state Purdue, which waxed Northwestern on senior day.
In the Bracket Project compilation, Notre Dame is slowly rising, now being a No. 8 seed with a No. 7 composite scoring. Keep in mind, too, that some brackets there haven't been updated for a while.
Bubble teams everywhere breathed a little easier when Big South No. 6 seed VMI's upset bid of top-seeded Winthrop in the championship game fell short. The Eagles are one of four teams to receive bids today, joining Belmont (Atlantic Sun) and the winners of the Southern Conference (Davidson-College of Charleston) and the Ohio Valley Conference (Austin Peay-Eastern Kentucky). Those teams will join Pennsylvania, which clinched the first bid out of the Ivy League on Friday night.
As for the Jerome, more love from the New York Times -- including a mention of Fort Wayne and the Insights blog. So far, we're two-for-two with champions today and if Davidson wins we'll have taken three of four champions early on. Our OVC pick, Tennessee Tech, bounced its way out of the tournament on Friday night.
Enjoy watching.
