Talked with Notre Dame coach Mike Brey on the Big East coaches' teleconference earlier today and he had this to say about senior guard Russell Carter's starting status.
"He moved pretty good yesterday," Brey said. "I still think we have to get a feel in warmups today. Because we don't have a shootaround because of classes, first time we'll get a read on him physically will be an hour before the game."
So is it a similar situation to when junior forward Rob Kurz came off the bench in limited minutes against South Florida?
"It is a little bit like that situation," Brey explained. "Certainly, we need all our guys on our roster and a Carter healthy and a Kurz healthy to make that run we want to make. If he tells me he's feeling pretty good, he better be in shape because he's going to get his share of minutes."
One other interesting tidbit: Before the Villanova game, Brey took a flight back from New York to South Bend with the parents of Wildcats guard Mike Nardi. Odd, sure, but he noted on the teleconference that he told them he felt Nardi would be a good coach after he's done playing.
