While quarterback Brady Quinn declined to talk much about Michigan during his weekly press conference, he did take time to both dish out and endure some ribbing. It seems as if Quinn's favorite target is Tom Zbikowski and his Mohawk.
Quinn had been talking about trash-talking and who on the Notre Dame defense is good at it. He listed Victor Abiamiri as a quality one. Then, he mentioned Zbikowski, who many would think would be a good trash talker.
"Tom every once in a while, but he doesn't really have any witty comebacks, so he's an easy target," Quinn said. "Especially with that Mohawk. Gosh, that's awful."
Quinn took another Mohawk shot later, saying that it was one of the leadership things Zbikowski does that goes unsaid, "Hence, the Mohawk."
Quinn also poked sarcasm at a reporter who asked if he could hear former Notre Dame quarterback Joe Montana yelling "89" referring to John Carlson during a completion to Carlson during the game. Quinn laughed at first, and then explained.
"We've got this ESP connection that I'm not sure a lot of people have heard about," Quinn quipped. "But it's working out pretty good thus far. Hopefully, we can keep that strong connection the rest of the year because it would bode well for us."
Then, he answered the question seriously.
"Obviously, you don't hear but hopefully maybe great minds think alike so it works out like that."
Now, Quinn can only hope the fake connection can give him the type of pro career Montana had.
While Quinn dished, the last question of the day snapped back. A reporter from Columbus, Ohio had spoken with Quinn's mom, Robin. For the record, Quinn described Momma Quinn as a talker. Apparently, Robin had told the reporter that both her and her son are a bit "anal." So, the reporter asked him about it.
Quinn, for one of the few times in being interviewed, got slightly red.
"Wow, I really got to thank her for that one," Quinn said. "I wouldn't put it that way. I'm sure she's pretty uptight like that but this whole experience has taught me to kind of relax more and be loose and take things in stride. She hasn't had the same experiences that I've had. I'm sure she's even more nervous nowadays and uptight about everything."
His answer done, he looked at Notre Dame media relations person Brian Hardin and said "Wanna cut it off there, Brian," half-jokingly.
Luckily for Quinn, it happened to be the last question on the call.
His response: "Thank the Lord."
