Saturday Observations

Today was freshmen orientation at Notre Dame -- so the crew looked noticeably thinner on the second lines of stretching. Because orientation is an entire day, the players can not attend practice. It also left much to be desired as far as observations go, but here's what we got:
  • It seemed like there were a lot of guests today -- but it could just appear that way because practice was moved inside to the Loftus Center. Two sets of bleachers were set up and at least one was close to full.
  • Associate Athletics Director Stan Wilcox was in attendance.
  • It was tough to really gauge anything because of the depleted numbers, but I've said it once and I'll say it all year -- Brady Quinn has a ridiculous arm. Today he threw sideline-to-sideline with Evan Sharpley and it seemed like he barely even moved when he threw the ball. Impressive.

Also, for those who haven't seen the paper yet, The Journal Gazette broke news on Notre Dame and possible NCAA violations against football player Tom Zbikowski and basketball players Luke Zeller and Kyle McAlarney. Another note -- we'll have the Q&A again tomorrow but it'll be on a different page, so feel free to send those questions in. The link is here: http://www.fortwayne.com/mld/journalgazette/sports/colleges/university_of_notre_dame/qa_forum.htm

Michael, can you clarify the process you went through when you discovered that these promos were being done?

Did you report it to the NCAA or did you ask the NCAA if a player doing promos was a violation? Did you report it to ND first?

Just curious, thanks.

Michael--Enjoy your website a lot; would enjoy it more if you used a larger type!

Thanks, Irvinejack
