Also, Every arena has it's handful of idiots. The key is to realize the real fans don't act like that and to just ignore them and not start any trouble. When on the road, don't act like you would at a home game, be more respectful to the fans around you and instead of rooting AGAINST the other team, root FOR your team. Act like you'd want visiting fans to act in your home rink and you'll be fine.

lovelost

thanks for the opinions Brandon.

Hoss

Great recaps of the arenas Brandon, but I would still put K-Zoo at the top, just because it's the MC-North. We have been to so many games there, and yes that makes me one of the best fans for driving the 150 miles!!!So, ha...The only drawback of K-Zoo is SLAPPY!!!!

I know you were just talking about the IHL teams, but I just wanted to say the Sears Center, where the Hounds played, was also a very nice clean arena to watch a game. Great seats, great scoreboard, nice look to the place, there just weren't any fans there.

greatwhitenorth

whose slappy?

buttermilk

K'zoo mascot, pretty lame act.

dirty ginch

love kalamazoo with bloomington a close second.yep, slappy sucks.

dirty ginch

1.Fort Wayne by far
2.Bloomington
3.K-Zoo
4.Muskegon

Havent been to Flint or Port Huron. By what I hear, dont want to go to Flint either. Heard its a VERY COLD place and Im talking temp.

Brandon

Hoss,

Yeah, the Sears Center would definitely be very high on the list. B-E-A-utiful arena, the few fans they had were extremely nice and made it a point to come up and welcome us any time there. Seamless glass, great seats, a fun mascot to mess around with...or stab with a flag..which ever :)

Possibly the best aspect of the arena could be over looked...they don't have Pepsi or Coke...they have RC Cola!

If anyone has any questions about the different barns or things to do around them, feel free to post em here and I'll do my best to answer all the questions and if I don't know the answer, I'll find someone that does.

Brandon

Karla,

Flint used to be an ice box...you could literally see your breath during the game but the last few games I've been to up there, it wasn't a problem at all. Still not toasty by any stretch but it has improved and is very tolerable, I'd say just about right for a hockey game. Hockey is played in the winter, it's suppose to be cold :)

Karla Stranger

Unless you have arthritis and on blood thinners and freeze to death....LOL....

Brandon

Years ago in Flint and Motor City I regularly saw fans in winter coats, gloves, and wrapped up in blankets...You could always go that route :)

It's honestly not that cold anymore, thankfully.

Homco

Brandon, I totally agree. We managed to make it to every barn except bloomington a couple times last season and my favorite barn is Flint. It is a great mix of people and the feel of the place. We sat next to some great fans that had fun with us and let us have fun with them. The barn was old yes, but it was fairly well kept and warm enough (it's hockey, it has to be a little cold) Flint also has the most awesome entrance tunnel for playoff games. The blow up General is cool and I wish we could do something cool like that.

We went to 4 or five games at K-zoo last year, nice barn but if it was as far as muskegon I would be complaining. The only thing that makes it "OK" is its proximety to us. On a side note, Yes, Slappy blows.

Muskegon is nice enough, we sat next to some pretty crappy fans though. *shrug*

Port Huron, WOW how embaressing!

you beat me to it

Cat Eyes

Wow! What a rundown of the barns...thanks, guys! I appreciate that! I plan to hit at least one away game this season, and was not sure which one to pick. I have a close pal from Musky, so we might try that one, but not sure now...Bruce on this blog went to one of the playoff games at Port Huron, so that could be the reason for the poor fan treatment he received there.

When you say don't be an obnoxious K fan, do you mean be quiet and don't root for them and don't wear the orange, or just don't be, like, really obnoxious about it? 'Cause if I can't be a cheering section, I can't even go...I can only sit on my hands for so long...I can behave, but I cannot NOT cheer when we score! I can do it nicely and not like rub it in and all...I never even do that when the opposing fans are visiting and sitting in my section or anything here!! I can take some heckling (hello, I am on this blog!!), but I refuse to take my kid and get beat up or anything!!

mightbite

me & Mrs. went to musky a couple of years ago during cup finals=nobody was nasty to us/hotel right across street + bars real close.Going to try k-zoo this year.

Brandon

Absolutely cheer. Cheer when they take the ice, cheer when they score, cheer when they clear the puck during a penalty kill..cheer whenever you feel like it and absolutely wear the orange and black. Just don't act like an idiot and you'll be fine. No need to do a little jig because we score or get a power play. Just be smart and you'll be fine. You'll get told to shut up, go home, etc etc, just ignore it and continue to cheer. Depending on the crowd around you, you can still talk alittle trash during the game, just be prepared for it to come back at ya 10 fold. Remember, you're a visitor in someone else's house and a representative of "Komet Nation" so don't make the rest of us look bad. Most importantly, be gracious in win or defeat.

Wendy

Brandon, isn't it a bit hypocritical to mock the departure of Tyler Willis from K-Zoo so soon after Reiter spurned the K's to play in England?

Brandon

How did I mock Willis going to England? By saying that Bootland is having a tough time recruiting players so far?

...Yeah, that makes sense...really...

Jerad Shaw

My favorite so far has been Muskegon. We have been to 3 or 4 games there I do believe. Love the hotel acrossed the street. Also, have met some awesome people in Muskegon. KZOO is a nice venue. Last time I went there, got a little rowdy. If you go, sit right down by the penalty boxes. Those people were classic. Gave me the business and toke it back. Actually met up with a couple of them when they come to Ft. Wayne.
Port Huron was wild up by our seats due to the amounts of booze consumed. I actually went to the over level and had a couple great converstations. Awesome arena. Like Brandon said, reminded me of my High School Basketball days.
I will make it to Flint this year @ somepoint. If only to shoot spitballs into the press box towards Savage. I figured if we are all so dumb, I can wear my dunce hat and do that! It's been years.

Cat Eyes

Ohhhh...forgot about Savage...yeah, I better stay outta Flint. I can keep my mouth shut only just so much...not so much, really...

Cool, well, if I can cheer and all and wear the orange and black, then I'll go! How often do a big group of you all do a bus trip? Or is that only for the playoffs?

Cat Eyes

Shaw...that would be hilarious if you do go...make an orange dunce hat and go find Savage, just to be a good sport (not that he would recognize one, but try anyway)...I bet you'd make the Flint paper at the very least...no idea what you look like, but I'm dying picturing a Komets road jersey-clad dude wearing an orange dunce hat now...

Brandon

Off topic for a minute but just wanted to give everyone a heads up that theres a moderate chance of severe storms over night. A derecho is very possible given the conditions and wind gusts of 90 mph aren't out of the question, neither are isolated tornadoes. Expect a watch to be issued within the next couple of hours with the storms rolling in after midnight so that's a very dangerous combo. Keep your eyes to the sky and it'll be a fun night of weather chasing :)

Let's hope these maps are wrong but it could be a long night

Karla Stranger

Seen the radar lately Brandon? Long night? OOOOOOOOOOOOOOH yeah.

Karla Stranger

OHHHHHHHH GODDDDDDDDD gonna be a LONGGGGGG night. Warnings and watches have begun.

Brandon

Yeah, I saw. Warsaw is about to get hit pretty hard here momentarily and then the rest of us will slowly start getting it. So far everything Ive said has come true...unfortunately. This storm has done a LOT of damage on its way here and much of Chicago is without power from it. Don't mess around with this storm, it means business. Remember, the basement is the safest place to be during a severe storm or the most interior part of your house!

Brandon

On the plus side, this storm is chuggin' and will be gone as soon as it's here

Wendy

Oh yeah! Quite a bow. Could be interesting, indeed.

"Apparently even Bootland's own friends wont play for him." Silly me. How could anyone mistake that for a taunt? That's okay, though. You are supposed to taunt other teams. But it's best not to give them an issue (like Reiter's departure) to throw back in your face when you do. Just FYI.

Brandon

The K's have signed several players, including award winners from last year. Who has KZoo signed? Tapp and Wilson...not exactly earth shattering players (well, except for when Tapp jumps up and down) Bootland is a first year coach and times are tough in the Zoo, settle down Red.

Karla Stranger

Oh man....how much damage Brandon?

Karla Stranger

BTW....is this Brandon Warner?

Brandon

This has been great to watch! What a light show! We got lucky here in the Fort as far as strong winds go but lightening has struck several objects. There's report of a tree/limb down on a parked car blocking traffic here in the city but it's still early as far as damage reports. I'm am hearing about a couple of fires possibly sparked by lightening tho. Power is also out around Goshen Rd/Coliseum blvd but I'm sure there's more around town w/o power. More reports will come in tomorrow once daylight hits. There has been one fatality reported with this storm so far. A tree fell on a car in Laporte county, killing the occupant.

and no, I am not B-Dub..although I did stay in a holiday inn express last night

mightbite

That is why WINTER STORM WARNINGS=is great.
