Doomsay or doomsday or just hockey talk
Regular reader Goalie Girl commented recently that this is the "doomsayer" blog and that it's getting a "bad rep." OK, I agree with the former. I choose to disregard the latter.
Clearly, there is a lot of negativity among all the comments. Again, I know, it's hard to be positive with teams falling into oblivion and no players yet signed for next season. And by now you probably know how I feel: You're all entitled to your opinions and should vent away.
Although, it is nice to read what the positive thinkers are feeling, too, so don't be afraid to chime in with things. If you feel things are going well, don't let the gloom-and-doom troops monopolize things.
Which brings me to the next, more important, point. Please, be civil to your fellow posters. I can't tell you how many people have come up to me to thank me for the blog and all the information, only to follow that with a statement like, "I read it, but I don't leave comments on there. I don't need to get attacked by other fans."
Seriously, let's all have some constructive debate on here. Unless, of course, you're just really angry and need to vent. I appreciate it. Public service announcement over.
Onto more fun things: This was posted on www.intotheboards.net and I just saw it, which is why I bring you something so dated. But interesting nonetheless. Apparently, Greg Rajan, a reporter with the Corpus Christi Caller-Times, has some unpleasant recollections of new Komets coach Al Sims. Click here and also here, to see two blog entries. One question: Isn't this the guy some of you readers were comparing to Dave Eminian from the Peoria Journal-Star? Reading his stuff, it must be. So, we'll take it with a grain of salt -- a big grain of salt.
Also, check out this story from the Bloomington Pantagraph; the Prairie Thunder is having a free-agent camp. While I think paying $350 is a bit much -- do these people not bring their own equipment? -- I like the idea of an open tryout. Wouldn't it be nice if the Komets had an open tryout where they looked at locals? Can't hurt to look. Anyone see "Invincible," the movie?
-- By Justin A. Cohn, The Journal Gazette

if anybody local had the talent we need then theyd allready be playing somewhere where they could be scouted.

You never know. There could be a diamond in the rough. Hence, the Invincible reference. Leave no stone unturned -- plus -- it would be really good marketing, community goodwill and fun to cover.

At least their camp includes hotel. Muskegon is charging 250 and giving a discount rate at a hotel. Would anyone like to give me a loan to get some equipment and pay for my tryout? LOL.....no seriously.

I've had the good fortune to play with some of the Komets past and present, and have to say that I know of at least three or four guys locally that could probably crack the lineup if they had the better part of a year to train. That's the tough part...guys being signed by the K's have done nothing but play hockey for the last eighteen-plus years. No matter how much skill one has, it's tough to be in tip-top shape while going to school or working full-time. However, if you knew ahead of time that the Komets were going to conduct a mini-camp for walk-ons, you could eat and train like a madman in the hopes of that one shot in a hundred. I think it's a great idea.

Come on, take this quote -
"--- The "International" Hockey League (which encompasses the sovereign nations of Illinois, Indiana and Michigan) apparently doesn't know what its championship trophy will be."

"the sovereign nations of Illinois, Indiana and Michigan"
That is funny, I don't care WHO you are.
